Medina County Fair

fun days draw near
As Fair Time draws near,
area citizens are preparing
to participate in the 1982
Medina County Fair to be
held September 18 and 19 at
the Fair Grounds at Hondo
City Park.
Farmers and ranchers will
bring hay, crops and animals
to be judged while their
wives and other home-
makers will compete in vari-
ous homemaking skills. The
winners in all events and in
all areas will be on display.
The weekend of festivities
will begin with a parade
through downtown Hondo
Afterwards, fairgoers will
find entertainment, food,
drink, exhibits, contests, de-
monstrations, carnival rides,
races, shows and dances to
keep them happy and busy
An authentic Indian Re-
servation with teepees,
sponsored by the Black
Powder Gun Club of the Hill
Country, will give fairgoers
a firsthand look at how life
was for the Indians years
ago. Club members will
actually live on the reserva-
tion for two days.
The Heart of Texas Snake
Handlers and Birds of Prey
will have demonstrations
and Ultra Lights will have
an air show. For those who
wish to participate, there
will be go cart races, com
shuckin' contests, sheep
shearing contests and an Old
Fashion Fiddler’s Contest.
Musical notes will abound
with Gospel Singers, Gilbert
and the Blue Notes, two sets
of Mariachis, the Country
Sunrise Band, Alzafar
Kickers Band, and the De-
vine Music Makers perform-
ing Saturday night's dance
will feature David Kemp and
the Family Tradition.
Other entertainment in-
cludes a model airplane club
air show, John Novak's
Magic Show, a gymnastics
team, Cadence Cloggers, An-
tique Car Display, twirlers,
and the Alsatian Dancers of
Texas.
A Country Store will be
sponsored by the Home Arts
Division featuring home-
made items, food and drinks.
Food booths will serve
cake, snow cones, water-
melon, cookies, com-on-the-
cob, chalupas, punch, tacos,
tamales, iced tea, shishka-
bobs, ribs, came guisada,
egg rolls, banana fritters,
Belgium Waffles, ice cream,
doughnuts, coffee, milk,
juice, nachos. frito pie,
sopapilla, lemonade, pickles,
German Tacos, turkey legs,
hamburgers, hot dogs, wine
and wine coolers, pie,
krispies, buenueloes, beer
and soft drinks.
A barbecue dinner will be
served between 11 a m. and
2 pm.
There's fun in store for
everyone at the Medina
County Fair this fall

Battalion. 9th Marines,
Camp Pendleton. Calif
The unit will spend six
months overseas as part of
the Marine Corps' Unit de-
ployment program. The con-
cept is designed to rotate
whole battalions or squad-
rons at a time instead of
individuals at separate inter
vals In this way. unit inte-
grity is retained and the
actual time they spend over-
seas is shortened
During the deployment,
the command will conduct
training exercises with the
U S 7th Fleet and units of
allied nations
