Memorial Day ceremonies will
be held Monday in Hondo, 10 a.m.
at Memorial Park; at Natalia's
Veterans' Memorial Monument at
11 a.m.; and in D'Hanis, 6:30 p.m.,

MV Youth Football
registration set
The Medina Valley Youth
Football Association will hold
registration on May 26, and June
4, at the Braden Keller Center in

New Fountain plans
Singspiration service
The New Fountain United
Methodist Church is having its Fifth
Sunday Singspiration Celebration
Service on May 29, at 7 p.m. The
Gloryland Gospel Singers from
First UMC, Kerrville, will be joining
in singing a Gaither Medley.
Everyone is invited to attend. Join
us as we share God's beautiful Gift

Hondo Garden Club
to give away gifts
The Hondo Garden Club is
having a free giveaway of four gifts
to celebrate National Garden
Week, June 5-11. Forms are
available now at Pepe's Pizza,
Azteca, Mando's, Flightline, Thrift
Shop, and the library. No purchase,
need not be present to win.
Drawing will be held June 9.
St. Paul plans VBS
St. Paul Lutheran Church invites
young people to get their summer
off to a great start. Children, ages 3
years to 6th grade completed, will
love "Kingdom of the Son”, a
prayer safari adventure, June 6-10,

The Hondo Public Library will
host the 2005 Texas Summer
Reading Program. This year’s
Reading Club theme is Go Wild,
Read! It provides opportunities for
children of all ages to enjoy
reading! Co-sponsored by the
Texas State Library and Archives
Commission and Friends of the
Hondo Public Library, the free
program will run June 8 - July 13.
It will include weekly reading,
activities and events. For more

Eastern Star Family Night
Hondo Chapter #404, Order of
the Eastern Star, will host Family
Night Thursday, May 26 (today), at

Driver license office
changes hours
The Texas Driver License office
in Hondo, 702 Harper (the police
department substation located at
the airport), will be open each
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and
Friday; phone 830426-8975. The
officer will be in Bandera on
Wednesdays. Offices in Devine
and Castroville have been closed.
Missionaries seek
donations of items
Missionaries in Jesus Christ are
looking for fans and air condi-
tioner units in good working
condition for the handicapped
orphanage they minister to in

Donations of box fans
sought for elderly
Community Council of South
Central Texas [located by the
Nutrition Center at the airport]
tells us they're collecting box fans
for the elderly for this summer. If
you’d like to help out, drop one off
at their office.

The rabies season is just
beginning and two cases have
already been confirmed in Medina
County. Remember to get your
pets vaccinated.

An open-air Farmers' Market

New voting equipment to be purchased
Medina County
Commissioners ’
Court
Medina County Commission-
ers’ Court approved the pur-
chase of electronic voting equip-
ment and software. With the new
equipment,
the county
will be in
compliance
with state-
funded Help
America Vote Act (enabling dis-
abled citizens to vote).
• GrantWorks was given au-
thority to apply for the non-bor-
der Colonia Fund grant. This
grant will help eligible Medina
County residents with the cost
of replacing defective septic
tanks.
• The court granted approval
to a variance for Dancing Bear
Subdivision Unit 2C located in
Precinct 1, off FM 1283. The
variance concerns the grade for
one of the roads in the unit.
• Preliminary approval was
granted to Rolling Hills Subdi-
vision, located in Precinct 1, off
Hwy. 173.
• The court granted authoriza-
tion to advertise for bids for in-
mate phone systems and inmate
commissary for the county jail.
• The court accepted a bid
from Medina Crushed Stone for
the purchase of crushed base.
• The annual service agree-
ment between Medina County
and Hondo Volunteer Fire Com-
pany was approved.
• The court approved adding
the Bluebonnet Child Advocacy
Center as an authorized agency
for jury fee donations.

the sponsorship of the Summer
Food Service Program. Break-
fast and lunch will be provided
free of charge to all students
ages one to eighteen at the lo-
cations listed below.
No application is necessary.
People who are eligible to par-
