A MEMORIAL FUND
... has been established in memory of Hilmar
J. Koch, long-time Medina County Surveyor, to
benefit the Medina Memorial Hospital. Mr.
Koch's family established the fund with the hope
that new equipment will be purchased for the
hospital with the funds. The family has started
the fund with a $1,000 donation.
John Rabidou, Hospital Administrator, said
Tuesday that the hospital will use the funds to
purchase equipment which is badly needed, but
which the hospital could not otherwise afford.
I just want to remind County residents that the
hospital was established by the community to
help the community. I believe it’s our responsibil-
ity to help keep this facility operating.

Burglaries reported
Crime wave hits Hondo
Residential and bqsiness
burglaries in the Hondo area
have almost doubled during
December, compared to
other months of the year,
Hondo Police Chief Jerry
Smith said Tuesday
Burglaries usually begin
to increase after thanksgiv-
ing and then diminish some-
what after the first of the
N year, he said.
“Recently, an average of
seven dr eight burglaries
have been reported per
week,” Smith said.
During this time of the
year there is always an
side vehicles. Residents tend
to leave their vehicles up-
increase of packages and
other items stolen from in-
locked while shopping in
town, and Christmas pack-
ages left on the seat of an
unlocked vehicle are easy
prey for burglars, the Police
Chief said
Smith advised Tfbndo dfi-
zens to lock doors and win-
dows in their home, and to
also lock parked vehicles
(even at home in the drive-
way).
“These crimes are occur-
ing at various times,” Smith
said. “But most residential
burglaries have been be-
tween 7 and 11 p.m” he said.
Smith estimates that over
$5,000 worth of merchandize
will be stolen from Hondo
residents before the Christ-
mas season is over.
