Dear Burnis:
If you will publish the
following in your Letter to
the Editor column, it will
be deeply- appreciated
On Saturday evening
the 5th of March, at the
Hondo City Hall, seve-ai
hundred persons from
Medina and surrounding
counties enjoy-ed the fruit*
of the labor of many of my
patients, friends and
neighbors. The occasion
was am appreciation and
send off buffet for me
Since I have retired
fjnm private practice here
inH-mdo and have accept-
ed a position in industrial
medicine m Saudi Arabia,
and we are scheduled to
leave here March 1-fch. I
have had neither the time
nor the opportunity to
thank individually all of
the people who did* so very-
much work in preparing
the perfectly, lov ely buffet,
decorating the tables, and
arranging far gift presen-
tations
It is with the deepest
humilitv that I accepted
such - honors, and I am
here-fn expressing my
heart-felt thanks to ail
those wonderful people.
Both my wife and I
wish to sincerely thank
everyone concerned for
the wonderful and
congenial gathering, the
many kind words that
were spokeD. and the
sincere wishes for a
happy, healthy, and en-
joyable future.
Vie boch received very-
lovely and valuable
watches which we shall
treasure always, and
exquisite luggage, which
we shall put to immediate
use in our travels
Both of us having been
involved in the delivery of
medical care here in
Hondo, we also wish to
take this opportunity to
let everyone know, even
though we have witnessed
in the past decade and a
half ' a significant
up-grading of the medical
care system, that our
sincere hope is that this
trend will continue. We
believe that, if the citizens
and those involved in the
provision of medical care
will work together closely,
in the near future Hondo
and Medina County will'
have one of the best
possible health systems
for a community of its
size
We anticipate retumkig
home annually, and hope

Dear Sr:
. I saw the picture of our
dog catcher’s trap in the
February- 24th Anvil Her-
ald.
If our dog catcher
would like to have a likely
place to set his trap !
would suggest he use my
front lawn as I believe
every stray dog in the
neighborhood uses my
lawn for their bathroom

continuing today, followed by the
fight to hak the discriminatory
practices which are still bang
used against Mexican children in
the schools.
"Our people's history has long
been one>of exploitation, oppres-
sion. and discrimination, because
we are of the workmg dass and
because we are Mexicanos. You
who, control the, economy and
make the laws never have and
never wil be able to go beyond,
the reach of your own needs and
interests. The Mexican people’s
sjarit is a fighting one and our
struggle is long but just.
"The most important issue at
this time is the drainage project in
the northeast side of town. We are
here to present a petition 9gned
by over 200 persons who are
dissatisfied with the project and
who are demanding the two
bridges be built. one on 15th and
the othff on 16th St. The drainage
problem has caused great incon-
veniences for the people for many
years. If the two bridges are not
built we will use every legal and
propagandistic means available to
expose the terrible mess that the
city of Hondo has created on the
northeast side.
"In the past the people wbo
have stood up for their rights have
been subjected to police iurraa*-
ment and humiliation from thoee
in power. However with renewed
efforts and dedication, we will
pursue our goals to attain our
rightful status of first class
citizens in this community.
This is not the first time that
we have adtkeased the council and
it will not be the last. If our
demands are not met, we will
pursue a noth a1 course.

Coinite para Accioo del Pueblo"
At the time this letter was
presented, the group also submit-
ted a list of questions concerning
the drainage project which has
been underway in the Northeast
part of the dty for a long time.
City Manager Bill Young is
preparing answers to the quest-
ions and next week we will print
both the questions and his
answers. And at the same time we
just might give some answers of
our own.
It might be noted that carbon
copies of the above letter were
sent to the Justice Department,
HID. AACOG and Texa£ Depart-
ment of Public Affairs.

Deadline near
for vehicle tags
Be prepared to push the panic
button if you haven’t yet picked up
your 1977 motor vehicle registra-
tion sticker.
April 1 is the deadline for auto
registration, and very few motor-
ists have regista-ed their vehicles
so far. according to R. W. Towns-
ley, director of the Motor Vehicle
Division of the State Department of
Highways and Public Transporta-
tion.
"Tax collectors are waiting for
the big crunch’,” Townsley said.
Motorists will have no one but
themselves to blame if they wait
until the deadline April 1 to get in
their registrations.”
He added. ‘‘Every- county in the
state is running way behind
schedule." „ '
