Willow Oak, Silsbee, has been
appointed cadet chief of
athletics in his Air Force
Reserve Officers Training Corps
(AFROTC) detachment at Tu-
lane University, New Orleans.
Cadet Taylor was selected for
his academic achievement, out-
standing leadership ability and
potential as an Air Force offi-
cer. He is majoring in psy-
chology.
Upon graduation and comple-
tion of AFROTC requirements,

four guests present. Mrs. Joe
Thompson, Mrs. Robert Davis,,

The sorority will sell grilled

at 5:30 p.m.
The City Council of Beta
Sigma Phi Sorority will have a
’Bicentennial box supper, cake
walk, and family street dance
with live bands Saturday, Oct.
4, from 7 p.m. to 12 p.m.
The group discussed the Hal-
loween party which will be
Oct. 25 at Mr. and Mrs. Lee
Kelley’s home. The members
will wear costumes to the par-
ty. The sacks of clothing for
the costumes are to be brought
to the Oct. 13 meeting.
The sorority will have a ba-
zaar Dec. 5 in Mr. and Mrs.
Jim Smith’s home. All items
sold will be handmade. There
will be a door prize given away;
the public is invited. The com-
mittee members are Mrs. Rob-
ert Tatum Mrs. Richard Meers,
Mrs. Sam Roach and Mrs. John-
Mrs. Joe

Snow arrived in Mississip-
pi and Texas on railroad
cars in 1967. When 27 inches
of snow fell in Chicago that
February, the Chicago River
became so clogged with
dumped snow that city of-
ficials had the snow loaded
onto southbound railroad
cars, where the sun would
dispose of It.

Charles Stanley, a Sam Hous-
ton State University student/
athlete from Silsbee is partici-
pating on the 1975 Bcarkat foot-
ball team.
Stanley will hold a line-
backer position. He is a 6 foot,
1 inch, 218 pound junior, who
is rated as one of Head Coach
Billy Tidwell’s top junior col-
lege catches. “Stanley could
be one of the finest lineback-
ers in the conference,’’ Tidwell
says. “He is big, strong, and
exceptionally quick.”
He was coached by Jim
Owens at Henderson County
Junior College and ho played
high school ball for Coach Ray
McGallion at Silsbee, and was
named to All-District teams in
football, baskebtall, and base-
ball. He is a physical education
major, health minor. His broth-
er, Leon Stanley (5-11, 230
pounds), a 1975 graduate of
Silsbee High, is a t e n d i n g
SHSU and is a freshman team
candidate. Charles graduated
from Silsbee High in 1973.
They are the sons of Mrs. Fay
Etta Stanley of P.O. Box 1283,
Silsbee.
Sam Houston competes in the
Lone Star Conference, and will
begin conference play Sept. 27
against the East Texas State
Qualify set with automatic or man-
