We all have free will to do anything we want to do. We
also have free won't. No one can make us do anything we
really don’t want to do. We have choice. I was a fat
brunette. I didn’t want to be. Today I’m a thin blonde. I
chose to be what I am.
Certain words in our language have negative con-
notations. “She’s a very willful person,” someone aays.
According to the dictionary, it’s someone who is “govern?
ed by will without regard to reason.”
I think if willfql peopl&exist won’tful people also exist.

Once someone makes a choice about a matter In Bfe
which is of concern, something which is preventing life
from really working, that person must be willful in pur-
suing the goal.
If the problem is to lose weight, be willful when It
comes to eating things which will not assist you to attain
your goal. And by all means, be won’tful.
As long as we’re on the subject of words, I don’t believe
there is any such thing as “I can’t.” In my vocabulary, “I
can’t” means “I won’t.” Now if “I won’t” is positive,
when someone asks you to have a piece of cake, and you
know it will harm your diet, “I won’t” also becomes
negative when cloaked in its ally, “I can’t.”
“I can’t lose weight.” “I can’t play tennis.’* *1 can’t
sew.” “I can’t cook.” “I can’t sing.”
You can do anything you want to do. If yon can speak
you can sing. If you have hands you can sew. If you have
ingredients you can cook. If you have a tennis racket yon
can walk out on a court and hit a balL You can stick to a
program of careful eating.
Not all of us will ?ing, sew, cook or play tennis with flie
skill of a Sutherland, Schiaparelli, a Childs, or an Evert.
And at the same time, we may find that we get enough
pleasure out of what we’re doing to pursue it and become
as good at it as possible.
I’ts all a question of really wanting to do somethingbad*
ly enough to forget all the barriers and go ahead and do it
And that includes losing weight.
