The Beekeepers' Item for May, 1922
DON'T BE CONFUSED
In buying a larger hive than the 10-frame Langstroth.
Quinby invented an 8-frame hive w:th frames about 11 1-4 inches deep. It
was long ago found inadequate in size ad was made into a 10-frame hive, a size
we have offered for some years.
Charles Dadant found the 10-frame Quinby depth hive needed another
frame. He also found it a beekeeping n 'cessity to change this hive further and
evolved the 1 1-2 inch spacing from centre to centre of the frames, the real
Modified Dadant principle.
Producers of bulk comb honey in the South are finding in the Modified
Dadant brood chamber a helpful solution of swarming. With the regular
standard equipment used as supers, a q'ieen excluder is seldom necessary. Com-
pare 10-frame and Modified Dadant brood bodies.
