Grass is very short and dusty
which approaches ideal .condi
tions for a Blackleg outbreak.
Livestock producers are advised
to keep their herds immunized
against this fast killing disease.
Cattlemen can vaccinate their
entire herds including adult an-
imals with GSN. This protects
the animals from Blackleg Mal-
ignant Edema and Novyi (Blac
ks disease).
These Clostridium diseases
are carried in the soil and spores
are often taken in during per
iods of drouth and short graz
ing.
One calf was lost to Blackleg
in the Rogers area this past
week. The owner said "We try
to keep the calve3 vaccinated
but one slips by every once in
awhile.
The Pest Management pro
gram in Bell County is under
way with Doug Doggett as
County Entomologist. Producers
can participate by committing
specified acreage within the
next two weeks. The cost is
$1.G0 per acre on cotton and
$1.30 per acre for grain sorg
hum.
The schedule for the pest
management meetings and acre
age signup is: Little River Co
mmunity Lenter - 7:30 p.m.
Thursday January 22; Holl-
and Kountry Kitchen (free

Home landscapes can reflect
the Bicentennial "Spirit of '76'
with the planting of red white
and blue flowers. These plant-
ings are almost certain to add
interest and variety to the gar-
den. Flowers should be grouped
closely together. A group of one
color is more striking than a lot
of different colors scattered
about.
Flowers available in red
white and blue colors are petun
ias vGrbera anemones and
phlox. Those good for red and
white plantings are galdiolus
dahlias asters amaryllis impa-
tiens zinnias geraniums and
snapdragons.
Get vour snrincr vegetable
soil in good shape by tilling to
a depth of 4"-8". .A fertilizer
containing both nitrogen and
phosphorous can be applied be
fore tilling at the rate ot io-zu
pounds per 1000 square leet.
Tfc is Hmn to nlant some of the
vegetables in spring gardens.
The planting schedule goes like
this: January 15 to February 1-
