Persons wishing to file for a
position on the Seminole City
Council, Seminole school board or
Seminole hospital board may begin
doing so this Monday Feb. 19.
Those filing for the city positions
may file at City Hall; the school
business office for the school board
and the hospital administrator’s
office for the hospital board. For city
and school positions, persons simply
sign up at the respective locations. In
the hospital election, candidates will
pick up a petition from the
administrator, have it signed by 25
eligible voters in the hospital district,
then return it to the administrator.
There are three city courx:il
positions up for election; two school
board seats; and three hospital board
positions.
Seats on the city council up for
election are currently held by Rey
Saldana in District l, Place 1;
Tammy Clark in District 2, Place 1;
and Ray Keener, District 3, Place 1.
School board positions are
currently held by Jerry Don Foote in
District 3 and Gary Dugger in
District 4.
The three at-large seats on the
hospital board, currently held by Paul
Con3it, Ramon Mata and Jimmy
Pierson, will be contested this year.
The deadline for filing for all the
positions is 5 p.m. March 21. Early
voting in all elections will be Ikdd
from April 18-May 1 at Seminole
City Hall.
Election day for all three entities is
Saturday, May 5 at the Gaines
County Civic Building.
As has been the case for the past
few years, if there are no contested
races for any of the positions, an
election will not take place.

Gaines keeps oil production
lead with 2.68 million barrels
Gaines County once again led the
state in petroleum production in
November, 2000, the latest reporting
period, according to figures from the
Texas Railroad Commission.
TOP TEN OIL PRODUCERS
The county reported 2,681,613
barrels produced, compared to
2,201,411 in second-place Yoakum
County and 2,173,472 in third-place
• Andrews County.
Others in the top ten were, in order,
Hockley, 1,871,968; Ector,
1,775,124; Ptecos, 948,834; Midland,
Hospital,
Chamber
meetings set
Two entities have set regular
meetings in Seminole this week.
At 6:30 p.m. Monday, the
Seminole hospital board will meet in
die board room of Memorial Hospital
to call a hospital board election for
May 5, hear a presentation by
AeroCare and conduct an executive
session for the quality assurance
report In addition, regular reports
from the medical staff dealing with a
by-law change and credentials, the
CEO, Health Care Center
Administrator, Home Health
Director, Covenant Health Systems
and finances will be given.
Prior to the start of the meeting, the
hospital's “Employee of the Month"
will be recognized.
At 12 noon Wednesday, the
Seminole Area Chamber of.
Commerce board will hold its regular
monthly meeting.

NOVEMBER PRODUCTION
Texas preliminary November,
2000 crude oil production averaged
1,050,083 barrels daily, down from
the 1,091,543 barrels daily average
of November, 1999.
The preliminary Texas crude oil
production figure for November,
2000 is 31,502,479 barrels, a
decrease from 32,746,280 barrels
reported during November, 1999.
TOP TEN GAS PRODUCERS
While not in the top ten natural gas
producers, Gaines County did
produce 4,824,713 Mcf (thousand
cubic feet) of gas in November.
Zapata County led the state with
25,389,443 Mcf, followed by Webb
with 23,492,843 and Hidalgo with
22,241,057.
Others in the top ten were, Panola,
20,748,859; Pecos, 18,870,683;
Freestone, 10,990,831; Harris,
10,717,900; Crockett, 10,194,610;
Starr, 9,469,246; and Wise,
8,004,724.
NOVEMBER PRODUCTION
Texas oil and gas wells produced
437,865,236 Mcf of gas, based upon
preliminary production figures for
November, 2000, up from the
November, 1999 preliminary
production total of432,536,045 Mcf.
Texas production in November
came from 146,847 oil and 55,416
gas wells.
PERMITS TO DRILL
The Commission issued a total of
1,141 original drilling permits in
January of this year, compared to 730
in January of 2000.
The January total included 888
permits to drill new oil and gas wells,
52 to re-enter existing well bores and
201 for re-completions.
Permits issued in January included
293 oil, 264 gas, 554 oil and gas, 21
injection, one service and eight other
permits.
OIL AND GAS COMPLETIONS
In January, operators reported 298
oil, 465 gas, 41 injection, and one
other completion, compared to 229
oil, 349 gas, 19 injection and two
other completions during January.
Total well completions for 2001
year to date are 805, up from 599
