“A Porcupine Named Fluffy”, “Turtle’s Shell” and “I Am a Frog” were
the titles of the books enjoyed by 19 children during Storytime at the Van
Zandt County Library. After Mrs. Rhonda read the books, the children
made paper plate pumpkins. Next week Gracie Lamar will be the guest
reader and the subject will be Halloween. The county library has stories
and crafts at 10 a.m. each Friday.

Tea Party chair challenges incumbent state senator
During last week’s
Canton TEA Party meet-
ing, Canton TEA Party
Chairman Bob Hall an-
nounced his campaign
for Texas State Senate
District 2.
He enters the Republi-
can Primary race against
incumbent District 2
Sen. Robert Deuell.
Hall is a graduate of
The Citadel, served as
a captain in the U.S. Air
Force, Space and Mis-
sile Systems Command,
holds a commercial pi-
lot license and is a long-
time business-owner
with clients in multiple
states.
“Our Texas govern-
ment has grown too big
and spends too much
of the taxpayers’ mon-
ey,” Hall said. “The
incumbent legislators
we trusted in the past
have put us on a course
that is unsustainable.
Our state government
is too big, regulates too
much, spends too much
on things that are not the
core constitutional func-
tions of state govern-
ment, doles out favors to
special interests, has too
much debt, and relies too
much on federal dollars
for the state budget. This
weakens our great state.”
Hall said conserva-
tives must work together
to prese rve the future.
“This election is about
our children and grand-
children,” he said. “We
must change the legacy
we are leaving them,
and the only way that
will happen is by replac-
ing the incumbents with
true conservatives who
care more about future
generations than they
do about just getting
themselves re-elected.”
Not being a profes-
sional politician will
make him a better leg-
islator, Hall said. “I will
work to bring real mean-
ing to the core principles
of limited government,
fiscal responsibility,
personal responsibil-
ity, the rule of law and
state sovereignty,” he
said. “I am not a pro-
fessional politician and
have never held a public
PA. Geddie, publisher
of the bi-monthly “Coun-
ty Line Magazine” was
the guest speaker at the
Friends of the Van Zandt
County Library meeting
Oct. 14.
Ms. Geddie shared
the dream she had of
letting people in East
Texas know that “there is
something to do here.”
Her magazine focuses
on people, places and
events in this part of the
world. People who are
looking for a retirement
home, people who are
looking for a less hectic
life style, people who
want to raise their chil-
dren in a simpler setting
find guidance in her
publication.
Those who are fortu-
nate enough to be here
already can find day trip
activities for their fami-
lies. Look for County
Line in racks at selected
places, or go online and
subscribe.
The name of the late
Kathleen Stanford Bar-
ber was added to the me-
morial plaque in the en-
try of the library. Three
of her daughters, Ann
Miller, Julie Beazer and
Carol Baumgarner, and
a granddaughter were
able to attend. Daughter
Elaine Gothard could
not be here when this
token of the respect and
thanks that we have for
Kathleen was officially
added.
The words that her
daughter Julie shared
about her mother at-
tested to the example
she set for her family in
encouraging them in a
lifetime of reading, and
supporting the Library.
A brief business ses-
sion was held, and plans
will soon be announced
for special events
Friends will sponsor.
