The opening of the 60th Leg-

State of Texas, before seeking
relection: even numbers mean! a
two-year term, odd numbers four
years.
The ritual is held each time
the upper House Is redistricted
Senators learned their tenure of

ed to the front of the chamber,
reached in a flower bowl and
pulled out a sealed envelope
Clerk Charles Schnable opened
the envelope unrolled the paper
from a capsule and read I he num
ber.
Senator Ralph M. Hall of
Rockwall, who serves the 9th

Session, he had drawn lots for a
four-year term.
