Death Bed Repentanco
One of the strangest things in thtB
world is that intelligent beings will de-
fer preparations for what all know is
inevitable Death and then often a
hasty profession is made and friends
and relatives cherish the hope that the
departed is at rest The minister will
often make the impression that like
the thief on the cross he is in Paradise
Others will then say well if he is
saved after the life ho has lived there
is a chance for mo Is that dealing
faithfully with the souls of men No
Not And yet what can the poor minis
ter say He cannot afford to say what
he really believes according to the word
of God or friendB will be offended He
must smooth things over as best he
can That minister Is to be pitied and
it is a position ho shuns if possible
To seek salvation the seeker should be
in his right mind the dying is not and
therefore likely to be mistaken and Obi
what a fearful mistake To late To
late I hare been a close observer of
these things for years and have known
quite a number profess Christianity
when they thought they were going to
die but did not and I never have
known a single one to hold on to their
profession and if they had died the
preacher would have said something
like this While we are here to pay
this last tribute of respect to tbo mem-
ory of our departed friend his disem-
bodied spirit is basking in the sunlight
of eternal blessedness and at the
same time the soul went to the bad as
straight as Jonah did to Niniva when the
whale turned him loose Ohl how un-
wise It is to neglect the salvation of the
soul till a dying hour QUIZ

The placo was crowd with men
and boys till 2 a mit ieTSaid It Is
also Btated that two bartenderscould
scarcely sunply the crowd with drinks
nnd that the saloonist mode a pile of
of money This matter has horrified
many people Somo of whom voto for
saloons and patronize them Lets see
if there is anything unnatural about
this whole matter
1 Saloons are run for the money to
be gathered by them The more people
who visit saloons tho more money the
saloon man gets Whatever fwfll draw
a crowd is simply business enter-
prise That many a ompfind heart
is entered and pr 5dV by salooni
methods is an open sei jtThis enter-
prise is made possible ay men voting
to license the saloons Every intelli-
gent voter knows this indt all voterB
who supporst saloons ought notto com-
plain no matter what corneatit of the
legal salo on business That is clear
enough
2 A pile of money was madol
That was precisely the thing sought
when the wire waB put in the sloon
Tbo object wasnot fun Bimrjly Every-
body except babies and idiots under-
stand that the object was simply to
make a pile of money That is the
only object saloon men have in view
They are not selling liquor for their
health nor to illustrate their patriotism
Whenever tho liquor business and ap-
purtenances ceaBO to make money every-
man will go out of the business and
the women and children will itay out
of it as they do now If you donl see
that maybe it is because you have
rooms to rent up stairs above where
your ears ought to be
