Community seminar
Bayview Hospital will be holding a seminar ’'Modem

Doug Maiming seminar
Coastal Bend Alzheimer’s Association will present Doug
Manning in seminar on Thursday, June 20. Manning, a
pastor, counselor, speaker and author of "Don’t Take My
Grief Away From Me," "With God on Your Side,"
"Comforting Those Who Grieve" and "When Love Gets
Tough-The Nursing Home Decision”, will present semi-
nars from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m, at First United
Methodist Church, 900 South Shoreline Blvd. Those at-

Family losses seminar
Aprogramin "Family Losses and Grief” will bepiesnted,
by Jenny Russell, MA, MSW, a bereavement counselor
and educator at the Christ! Center, 1017 S. Staples (north
of Six Points.) The course will be held from 6 to 9 p.m„

"Keys to Healthy Family Functioning" will be the
discussion topic for the July 3 community seminar at
Bayview Hospital. The workshop focus will be on the
principles that any parent can learn to enhance healthy
family functioning. The seminar is free and open to the

The Accelerated Spanish Program will begin again and

8-12; and Level V, July 29-Aug. 2. For further informa-

Spohn Hospital events
Expectant mothers, fathers, siblings, grandparents and
others are invited to visit Spohn Hospital-C.C. and tour the
maternity areas on Saturday, June 15 at 2:00 p.m, The tour
will be conducted by registered nurses. Bright Beginnings
packets,will be available, explaining the free prenatal pro-

Special program to air
To mark the 100th anniversary of Pope Leo XIII’s social
encyclical "Rerum Novarum," NBC will air a one-hour
presentation reviewing the social teachings of the Catho-
lic Church entitled "Marketplace Prophets." The program
will air on Sunday, June 23 on Channel 6 at 11:30 a,m.
CPR classes
l Cardiopulmonary (CPR) classes will be held on June 14
and J une 28 at Humana Hospital-C.C. to teach h ow to treat
choking and respiratory distress. The classes wifi be held
each day from 2 to 4 p.m. and are available to the public
at no charge, with a fee of ten dollars for class materials.

Mathis citizen honored
In the May 31 issue of the South Texas Catholic, i t was
reported that Father Jesus Garcia, pastor of Sacred Heart
Parish in Mathis, was named Citizen of the Year by the
Mathis/Lake Corpus Christ! Chamber of Commerce; Also
given that award was Olan McCraw Jr., superir, tendentof
the Mathis Independent School District.

"Funniest people” coming
The camera crew of ’ America’s Funniest Pcople wili
be in town on Friday, June 14 at Padre Staples Mall in the
Food Court with radio station Z95 broadcasting live from
noon to 8 p.m, and on North Padre Island on Saturday,
June 15, at Zahn Road and the Beach just north of J.P.
Luby Park with Z95 broadcasting livefrom 10am. to4:3C
p.m. and back in Corpus Christ! on Sunday, June 16 at The
Texas State Aquarium from 10 ara. to 6 p.m. looking for
those unusually talented people. On Thursday, June 13,
from 8 to 9 p.m. the crew will be scouting (no cameras) for
local comedians at The High Tide Comedy Club in the
Corpus Christ! Marriott Hotel.
Sign painting classes
Sign painting classes will be held at St. Joseph's Catho-
lic Church annex building, located at 719 19th Street
Herman Gutierrez, editoral cartoonist and an advertising
ameacher will be teaching the 17?fbr4 weeks beginning
on Saturday, June 8, The instruction is sponsored by the
Parish Council and all other area parish councils are wel-

Bayfest applications
Bayfesl ‘91 is taking applications for food, games and
artist booths for the festival this fall. The dates for the 16th
annual Bayfest are Oct, 4,5 arid 6. Applications for food
vendors are due June 1. Games applications are due July
1 and the deadline for artists’ applications is July 30.
Complete application packers are available from die Bayfest

Pilgrimage to Mexico City
There will be a Pilgrimage to Mexico City, July 21-26.
The trip will cost $245 per person raid will include: The
Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe; Pyramids of Sun and
Moon; Main Plaza; Chapultepec Park; Metropolitan Ca-
thedral; National Palace; La Reforma and Ballet Folk-
lorico; and Silver City ofTaxco. The tours include round-
trip by train, horel and snack meals on train trip to and from

Support group
A divorced and separated support group meets every
Saturday at 1 p.m, at the Religious Education Building of
Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish at 541 Virginia Ave. in
Corpus Christi. All divorced, separated or single parents
are invited to attend.
Host families needed

The Second Annual incarnate Word College Middle
School conference will include a three credit graduate

The Family Life Office is sponsoring an afternoon for
