Happenings
by Peggy Erns*
I hope all had a
wonderful Christmas
and are looking forward
to a great New Year!
Our condolences
to the family of Gary
Guenthner who lost his
mother before
Christmas . Services
were held in San
Angelo.
Willimae Kaiser
has gotten a good
report after her surgery
recently and is up and
around and ready to go
for the holidays.
Tootie Feller got
the best Christmas pre-
sent of all when she set
foot on her own
doorstep before
Christmas. The family
is glad to finally have
her home even though
some lifestyle changes
may have to be made.
Carrie Tarr spent
Christmas with her son,
John, at his home in San
Antonio. Also present
were her other children,
James Tarr of Kerrville,
and Mary Nell Tarr of
Austin and nephew, Roy
Jones of Harper.
The Community
Christmas Program was
held on Dec. 21, 2003.
It included a number of
different presentations
including a duet by Desi
Taylor and Alice Hayes;
a trio by Levi and
Carolyn Ellebracht and
Buzzy Parker; a duet by
Corie Camp and Steve
Dodge; a piano solo by
Terri Hennecke-Theis: a
piano/organ duet by
Nicole White and Tina
Blair; a ballet perfor-
mance by Lindsey Garza
and Katie Harper, and
of course, the
Community Choir.
Pastors from all
the churches took part
and the Community
Help Center once again
benefited from the free-
will offering. Ladies of
the Lighthouse
Fellowship Chapel
served some wonderful
desserts following the
program.
The Sick List is
short this week: Mary
Louise Fritz is getting
around very well. Darla
Barker is healing after
knee surgery. Pat
Vaughn is very ill, and
Charlie Rogers suffered
a broken arm in a fall.
The Harper Stock
Show is coming up this
weekend. Youngsters
will begin checking in
their livestock on Friday
and the show will take
place on Saturday.
There is no sale with
this first show of the
season, but it gives the
young people a chance
to test their showing
skills. The show will
include hogs, sheep,
meat goats, and cattle.
It sa wonderful day to
spend with the young
people of the communi-
ty who are interested in
agriculture. They also
compete for showman-
ship honors.
Several fires hap-
pened during this last
week; we must all be as
careful as possible.
Remember the burn ban
in Gillespie and Kerr
Counties. I have not
heard about Kimble
County. The electrical
fire on the pole on
South 783 caused a
large number of homes
to be without electricity
on Friday. Dust and
mist buildup made just
the right combination to
cause sparks. The
Harper VFD fought a
fire on Saturday west of
town. This time of year
seems to keep our vol-
unteers busy.
This reporter was
treated to some great
pictures of Beig Bend
National Park over the
weekend. Martha
Stevens and nephew,
Jonathan Arehart of
Austin, took a short trip
there over the holidays
and took some spectac-
ular shots.
Clark Bierschwale
was here over the week-
end to visit and get in
some hunting.
Bill and Hazel
Ruff hosted his sister
and husband over the
holidays.
Rosa Lee Oehler
is expecting a house full
of children and grand-
children this weekend;
Elizabeth and Diann
Rahe entertained family
also over Christmas.
Myron and M lis
Schneider had their son
for a few days with his
family before their
daughter and family
came in for
Christmas.
Helen Fritz spent
Christmas in Kerrville
with family, and Leola

extremely busy during
these holidays; please
be careful. Speeding
travelers or speeding
hometowners not pay-
ing attention are not a
good mix.
