life. The m^c who is tied down
by bal? a dozen blooming iesppn-
sibilities and tbeir roothei, will
make a lighter and stronger fight
than the bachelor, wbo having
nothing icTneep him steady is al-
Vfhvs floundering in the mod. If
yon want to ascend in the world,

shown by the experience of a Den-
ton *i5dn. Njne years ago he was
offered a tract of nearly 2000 acres
right at Grand Prairie for $27 an
acre. He passed it up and bough:
a DentOD county farm at $23 an
acre. His farm is now worth $75
an acre. Four years later the
Grand Prairie tract sold for $125
an aore in a- body. Today h is
selling readily at $500 an acre, and
increasing value, by leaps and
bounds. In a less degree the same
will hold true with pike ropds. A
farm that is worth (50 an acre
without a pike road is worth, in
net value as well as general de$ira
bility; at least $15 more an acre
the day the pike is completed
alongside it. We’ve seen it
exemplified west of Denton where
lands close in and on the pike are

The man who gathers pumpkins is the man who plows all day,
And the man who keeps a humping is the man who make, it pay.
The man who advertises with short and sudden jerks,
Is the man who blames the editor because it never works.
The man who gets the business has a strong and steady pull,
He keeps his trade and paper from year to year quite full. >
He plans bis advertisements in a thoughtful, honest way.
And keeps forever at it until he makes it pay.” — Kxcbauge.
