In order for members of the AV-
FD to attend the yearly fire training
sessions it is necessary to raise
funds and this year Alto businesses
and individuals contributed over
$1,000. It is still necessary for the
volunteers to lose a week of their
work and for some it is simply not
possible or economically practical
to get away.
For Mrs. Crosby, it meant putting
her family responsibilities on hold
for a week. Mrs. Baugh is a night
supervisor at Lufkin State School;
Garwin Baugh has his own
business, a body shop; David Drew

Q. What does it mean when the
Bible says to “Be angry and sin
not” (Eph. 4:26)7
A Some people love to misinter-
pret this to meet their own anger
but God wanted us to have it for His
anger! On two different occasions,
Jesus cleansed the temple with a
scourge. John 2:13-16 was at the
beginning of His ministry and Matt.
21:12, 13 was just after He came in-
to Jerusalem on a donkey, the last
week! These two similar situations
arouse 3 years apart. Jesus was
definitely angry but He never sin-
ned!
The answer is in the motive, at-
titude or reason for your anger. Is it
selfish anger or Godly anger again-
st sin? In applying Eph. 4:26, you
will be angry when you see sin and
then you will act on behalf of God!
By your actions you will be aligning
yourself with God, not your own
side! To be angry and sin not means
to confront sin with the desire to see
the individual restored to God. If
someone sins against you, your
anger is most likely selfish rather
than Godly.
Always check out your motives.
Are you trying to vindicate God or
yourself?

“Em could handle It, aho'd do a
terrific Job,” Mid Chief Jimmy
Cracky. “She ha« learned a lot from
training aad never misses a
Tuesday night session. She reads all
the time and now writes about fire
prevention. Gene has the time to
devote to the job.
"She helps me with my paper-
work and banking and has taken the
load off me in my work. Gene has
the drive, the energy and initiative
to do the job. She can use more
training, but so can all of us,"
commented Crosby.
Other firefighters include Andy
Grammer who works for Johnson
Building Materials; Milo Reina at-
tends Stephen F. Austin State
University and is working toward a
degree in computor technology;
Mark Baugh works on a drilling
rig; Greg Low is in the cement
business; Sharon Carter ia a
florist; Debby Palmer is a medi-
cal technician and Mike Hooper
works for Leo Hicks; Sharon
Hooper, who is Elva Dean’s dau-
ghter, assists at fires with tons
of coffee and ice water.
In describing new methods of
firefighting, Chief Crosby explained

with a 1700 to I ratio of
water to steam. This allows tba
water to settle down and smother
the Are with the least possible
amount of damage to the interior of
the house,” said the Fire Chief.
"This method results in less proper-
ty damage and lower insurance
claims and this affects all of us in
our insurance rates, and the Key
Rating for the city," he concluded.
During the Tuesday training
session, I watched as the pressure
controlled nozzle on the hose, being
held by Sharon Carter and Gene
Croeby, turned 1 gallon of water in-
to 1700 gallons of steam. According
to Chief Crosby, the Tuesday night
training sessions are well attended
by the volunteers. Twenty of the 26
firefighters on the force were
taking part the night I was there to
catch some of the action on film.
