BOWLING NEWS
The Ladies mixed series for
yrue a Chicken Barbecue. Four
been * teams, 5 bowlers on each team,
The Ladies and two men.
Around town we notice signs
advertising the Kendall County
Fair which is to held August
29th, 30th and 31st. Busiest
persons in town are Lion Max
Theis, president of the Kendall
County Fair Association, and
Lion Buddy Gilliat, secretary of
the Association. Both of them
are busily snooping around
hunting prizes for the exhibits,
horses for the races and buyers
for the tickets.
Our County Fair is one of
the few remaining celebrations
of its sort in the state. In the
heyday of the county fairs
every county of any consequence
had an annual Fair. Gradually
the Fairs have disappeared in
the majority of our counties.
This is probably due to too many
other diversifying interests
which have entered our living
in the last generation. In Ken-
dall County, however, the Coun-
ty Fair is still an event of im-
portance; an event we all look
forward to with pleasure. Our
genuine interest and helpful-
ness will keep the Kendall Coun-
ty Fair a lively event every
year.
From the bowling club, we
hear news of an election in
none other than Lion Clarence
Holekamp was elected president
of the club. For vice-president,
Lion Ernst Nagel was chosen.
The Boerne Turn Verein is to be
congratulated on having chosen
such excellent men as officers.
Point of interest to Lions.
The Secretary has received, a
beautiful plaque from Lions In-
ternational to honor this club
for having won first place in
the district in hte recent mem-
bership drive held by the Lionel
Clubs all over the country. It
will be prominently displayed at
all subsequent meetings.
Lion C. C. Boeder looks with
pleasure at the shortening sum-
mer. Soon now, he says, schoo*
will be opening and- all this so-
called summer vacation (anoth-
er expression for hard work)'
will be over. Then he can sit
back and make the kids do the
work.
Ladies Night next Tuesday
at 7:30, usual place, unusually
presented. Rumor about Ladies
conducting our next Ladies
Night is true. Information
from a reliable source indicates
that the Lions will be entertain
ed by the beautiful, charming,
intelligent and gracious Lion-
esses, etc. (That build up ought
to rate a free pass.)
There will be a Tail Twist-
erette, a chairmanette ana
plans have all been made so
that we Lions can sit back and
laugh. Not only that; Roast
Turkey is to be served with all
trimmings added. Just imag-
ine, Roast Turkey, and how wq
can go for that. Five dollars
worth of entertainment and
food for only the price of an
every day luncheon. Don’t you
miss it Lion; begin working on
the little woman today. Tell
her to scrape together her
spare pennies and take you to
Ladies Night. After all, yoq
take her everywhere else you
go as a couple, why can’t she
take you to this affair.

How’s digging? Take that

ripe, then put it in the trench;
pack it tightly; cover t with dirt
and wait ‘till your stock needs it.
We know it will keep at least
thirteen years.
