JOSEPH TQTTPS.
At his home in this city, Fri-
day, Sept. 8, 'surrounded by
friends and loved ones the spirit
of Joseph Toups passed to its re-
ward beyond this veil of tears,
and on the following day a mul-
titude of those who loved and
admired him followed all that
was mortal of this nature's nob-
leman to the last resting place in
the beautiful Catholic cemetery.
Joseph Toup's was born in Ver-
million Parish La., Feb. 14,
1836, came to Texas when a lad
of 18, settled in Refugio county
a year later and became at once
one of our leading citizens and
successful* stockmen, in which
business he continued until his
death. Warm hearted, genial,
generous to a fault, full of energy
and enterprise he was always in
the lead in pushing to a success-
ful conclusion anything that was j
of interest to his town or county,1
and his place in our community
will be hard to fill: He leaves a
devoted wife, four sons and three
daughters who have grown to
ho ri or able m an and ‘w o m an b o o d
and a host of true friends whon
the Review joins in mourning his
sad demise.
Mrs. O. Mitchell and children
returned from Port Lavaca last
Tuesday where they had been on
a pleasure trip. They were ac-
companied on their return by
Mrs. Angleburg of Ban Antonio
who will spend some time hen
visiting.
