To Top 20 CAH
Electra Memorial Hospi-
tal located in Electra was re-
cently named one of the top
20 critical access hospitals
(CAHs) in the United States
for PATIENT PERSPEC-
TIVE.
The top 20 critical access
hospitals, including Electra
Memorial Hospital, scored
best among critical access
hospitals on iVantage Health
Analytics’ Hospital Strength
Index for PATIENT PER-
SPECTIVE. The list was an-
nounced September 28th dur-
ing the National Rural Health
Association’s Critical Access
Hospital Conference held in
Kansas City, Missouri.
The top 20 critical access
hospitals have achieved suc-
cess in one of three key areas
of performance.
Quality Index: A rating of
hospital performance based
on the percentile rank across

applications for Thanksgiving
Baskets will be taken through
October 24th.
Families or individuals
receiving some type of state
or federal assistance are eli-
gible to apply. Examples of
assistance include Medicaid,
Food Stamps, SSI and TANF.
Applicants need to show proof
of residence and type of assis-
tance received before signing

Homecoming sponsored
by the Electra Chamber of
Commerce.
Events are planned by
the chamber, school district
and theatre board Wednesday
through Saturday for the
annual event.
Registration remain
open for the Golf Scramble
on Friday and the Parade
and Car Show on Saturday
at the Crooked Creek Golf
Course and the Chamber of
Commerce office.
Four person teams will
compete in the golf scramble
which will tee off at 9 a.m.
on Friday. Sign up by 8:30
a.m. for the 9 a.m. tee off
at Crooked Creek. Cost is
$120 per four-person team.
Mulligans map be purchased
for $5 per person on the team
and carts will be available for
$7.50 plus tax per person.
The parade will begin at
10 a.m. on Saturday near the
fairgounds on East Cleveland
Avenue. Two divisions will
be judged, those over 18 and
those under 18. There is no
entry fee, but entries must
be registered at the chamber
office to be judged.
Prizes will total $600.
Each division will award a
$150 first prize, $100 second
prize and $50 third prize.
Trophies will be awarded
in eight classes during the
Homecoming Car Show
which will begin at 11 a.m.
in front of the Grand Theatre
in the 100 block of North
Waggoner.
Categories include Best
of Show, People’s Choice,
Antique ‘49 Back, Classic
‘50-’80 Street Rod, Muscle
Car, Original, Special Interest,
Pickups and Motorcycles. No
entry fee will be charged.
Events will get underway
on Wednesday, Oct. 3, at 8:30
p.m. with a black-out pep
rally in the high school gym
followed by a bonfire at the
Fairgrounds sponsored by the
Booster Club.. Thursday night
events include junior high
football in Olney.
On Friday registration
will get underway at the
chamber office at 7:30 a.m.
with coffee, cookies and
visitation. Red shirts featuring
the 2012 logo will on sale.
The shirts are available at a
pre-sale price of $12 and $14
through Thursday and will be
at the regular price beginning

A downtown Pep Rally
will be staged at 3 p.m. on
Friday, and outstanding exes
and former teacher will be
honored with a reception
sponsored by State National
Bank from 3 until 4:30 p.m.
A brisket dinner will be
available at the high school
cafeteria sponsored by the
FFA beginning at 5 p.m.
The pre-game show will
begin at Tiger Stadium at 7
p.m. and the Tigers will host
Olney at 7:30 p.m.
Following the game Open
House will be held at Electra
High School where the first
floor corridor and bathrooms
have been recently renovated
with red and white tile.
A dance will be held at the
Community Center following
the game for students fifth
through twelfth grade.
Registration will continue
on Saturday morning at 7 a.m.
at the chamber where Electra
Service Club will have the
annual Pancake Breakfast
from 7 a.m. until 9:30 p.m.
The parade will begin
at 10 a.m. with winners
announced at 11:00 a.m.
Following the parade will be
the annual free bean feed at
the chamber underwritten by
Electra Hospital District and
prepared by Electra Chuck
Wagon Gang.
The Car Show will be
from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.
with winners announced at its
conclusion.
Lady Tigers will host
volleyball games in the EHS
Gym beginning at 12 noon.
Grand Theatre Inc. board
will have the theatre open
from 1 until 5 p.m. with a
2 p.m. reception honoring
Robert Craighead and the cast
of the 1979 state one act play.
The theatre will re-open
at 8 p.m. for a Homecoming
Dance beginning at 9 p.m.
with Lee Hutchins and Back
In Time providing music. The
dance is open to high school
students and older. Cost is
$5.00 per couple, $3.00 for
singles.
Popcorn and soft drinks
will be available at the dance
to benefit theatre..
Craighead, Blackwell,
Balthrop To Be Honored
Honored during the 2012
Homecoming wifi be Janis
Eakin Blackwell, Class of
1966, and Robert Craighead,
Class of 1979, outstanding ex-
students, and Kay Balthrop,
EISD teacher, 1982-2011.
Janis Eakin Blackwell
The daughter of the
late D.R. and Helen Eakin,
Mrs. Blackwell graduated
from Electra High School in
1966. She is married to Jess
Blackwell and they have two
daughters, Justy Blackwell
Satterthwaite and Jody
Blackwell.
While is high school
she participated as a member
of Student Council, Girls
Athletic Association, Spanish
Club, Yearbook Sports Editor,
Debate, Future Homemakers
of America and Junior Class
Play. She was junior class
homecoming nominee and
senior class favorite.
She attended Midwestern
State University on a rodeo
scholarship and competed
on the rodeo team for three
years. She graduated with a
Bachelor of Science Degree
in Education with teaching
fields in secondary English
and speech. She competed
in professional rodeo along
with her husband, Jess, for 15
years, and still competes in
the barrel racing event.
For years she taught
English and speech classes
before earning her Library
media Specialist certification
from the University of North
Texas and taking the position
of district librarian. She
sponsored the Electra High
School Rodeo Team, currently
sponsors the Fellowship of

Robert Craighead wifi be
honored for his contributions
in the field of entertainment
at a special ceremony that wifi
be held at the Grand Theatre
from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oc-
tober 6.
The event will be hosted
by the Board of Directors of
The Grand. They include Stu-
art Smith, Dr. Barbara Brewer,
Diana Lockridge, Jannis Hay-
ers, Charles Harper, Jeannette
Miller, Edna Talley, Reba
Madera, Janice Cranford and
Billy Clark.
Special guests wifi be his
fellow members of the cast
and crew of the 1979 EHS
production of the one act play
Green Acres which advanced
to state competition.
These include Brad Thag-
gard, Steve Davis, VaRhonda
Schlegel, Jodie Baker, Darrell
Hesse, Greg Talley, Jill Thag-
gard, Janalee Malone, Julie
Durbin, Jessie Jacobi, Linda
Rice and Michael McCaleb.
Directing the play were
Diana and Jeff Lawrence.
At the meet Robert re-
ceived the Samuel French
Award which distinguished
him as the best actor in the
state’s AA division.
