BENEllTS ALL TEXAS
Bowie Cross Timbers The soecial
edition of the Fort Worth Gazette is-
sued on the 25th inst is one of the most
commendable successes in the history of
Texas journalism It will be appreciated
by the wnole state becauje its benefits

is hanasomcly flxed up and the good to
accrue to the city from the circulation of
this special edition cannot be estimated
THE EDITORS AT HOME
Texarksua Times More than 100 of
the moulders of public opinion from all
parts of the great commonwealth met at
tne place wnere a few year1 ago the
pautherlaid down and broke bread
with the most hospitable as well as the
most enterprising and liberal people In
Texas The meeting of the convention
was harmonious and pleasant through-
out and much business which will
result benellcially to both the press
and the state of Texas was transacted
But while the convention was all busi-
ness and didnt neglect anything of im-
portance pleasure and enjoyment was
not for a moment relegated to the back-
ground Every citizen of Fort Worth as
well as every business enterprise there
seemed to vie one with the other in their
very successful attempt to make the stay
of the editors in their midst enjoyable
and pleasant Fort Worth very properly
did not insinuate to her guests that they
of bunia
but
all that was not free to the editors
auring their stay tnere They were
sho vn over the entire city incarriages
Thty were taktn on nunierous excur-
sions they were banqueted and given a
raagnilicent ball the street car imes the

the re
quest that they take anything that they
misht see and desire The ladies of Fort
Worth too did their share towards mak-
ing our stay there a deiightful one They
gave entertainments and as lovely
woman always adorns whatever she
touchefc this made life still more
worth the Ihing for the visitors
The railroads too did their full share
towards making this meeting a memorable
one They all extended numerous
courtesies to the press and the Gulf
Colorado and Santa Fe gave them a de-
lightful excursionto the Territory which
was one of the most enjoyable features of
the week On tSeir return from this ex
cursion the editors were met at tne
gfe pot of jGjp esville by leading citizens
antfcftfeen < over the city after which they
were banquetted in royal style Last but
not least was the acceptation of the
genial Colonel McCargers invitation to go-
by Dallas and spend the day in
that city The Colonel who rep-
resented the Dallas Western Newspa-
per Union had a special car for his
guests and when they arrived at Dallas
they found committees there waiting to
take them in charge Festivities were
tnen inauguarated anew and anotner de-
lightful day was passed the good people
of Dallas tendering the editors a recep-
tion lit for the gods The editors then
deputed for their respective homes
where they once more began the weary
toil of every day life The Times Is free
to a mit that the manner in which Fort
Worth entertained the quill drivers could
not be Improved upon b any city in the
country and every one present
will bear us out in the asser-
tion Fort Worth is not only
the livest pluckiest most enterprising
and progressive city In Texas but her
hospitality and liberality is as broad and
as deep as the ureat ocean itself and
there can be no doubt as to the roseate
and grand future of such a city With
such citizenship as she can boast of it Is
no wonder that Fort Worth always gets
there with that even and symmetrical
development wnich challeges the adrai
ratian of the whole country She de-
serves her prosperity however aud If the
good wishes and assistance of the Texas
press avalleth aught she will continue to

San Antonio Express
The visit of the San Antonio and
Belknap Rifles to Washington and their
success in the competition of the
national drill must prove a grand thing
for San Antonio and Western Texas
It will prove a great and valuable adver-
tisement of our city and people and just
such an advertisement too as was
greatly needed Too many people in the
north and east still regard San Antonio as-
a rough frontier city with the older
people illiterate and uncoutn and
the younger ones of the wild
and woolly description and
no doubt thousands of the visitors to
Washington sought the camp of the San
Antonio boys on the expectation of seeing
a curiosity in organized companies of
young men of the wild west manners
and characteristics and with a half sav-
age style of uniform To these people
the San Autonio boys were a revelation
and as before stated their successes at-
tracted the attention of the whole world
of visitors to the pleasing contrast they
made to what was exDected b so many
to be seen They found two companies
of as handsome young men of as line
physical development of as high
order of intellect and educational
accomplishments of as soldierly
bearing and gentlemanly deport-
ment in every way as could be found in
an equal number picked from any com-
munity a body of young men any com-
munity might will be proud of aud Sau
Antonio through the exhibition made by
her rifle companies will take a mucn
higher place in the estimation of the peo-
ple of the country and have the eyes of
hundreds of thousands attracted to her
who otherwise would have thought of her
only as a quaint old city populated by
uncouth frontier people and located at
the southern jumping off place of the
United States Our rifle companies have
done the city a good service and San An-
tonio people will show their appreciation
of the fact
To Sne Jay Gould
Chicago Herald
The great success which a committee
of foreign bondholders once had in mak-
ing Jiy Gould disgorge 7000000 worth
of securities belonging to them but
which he had managed in some mys-
terious manner to get mixed up with his
own papers has not been forgotten by
European capitalists as is proved by the
fact that certain of them are now about
to sue him for the value of S3000000
worth of Denver Pacific bonds which
were lost in the same way when he was a
director of that company and also of the
Kansas Pacitlc With the interest the
amount claimed now amounts to So000
000 It is asserted that the bonds csme
to be regarded as Goulds private
property at about the time that
they were to rise in value from
S200000 to par How this transfer
took place is not set forth but to any one
who is familiar with Goulds methods
there will be no great mystery about it
The Kansas Paciilc owned the bonds
Gould was a director in both companies
and he has made it a business all his life
to take advantage of any little deals he
could make with himself in this manner
His forcetiulness of the interests of the
corporation for which he acts is prover-
bial When any of its securities
shows signs of advancing in value he
buys them and takes the velvet off
When any of his own securities manifest
symptoms of a decline it is generally
found that he has just sold them to some
corporation that is fortunate enough to
have him for a director It is totfber
hoped that the Kansas Pacific bondhold-
ers will be as successful in their quest as
the Erie bondholders wer6 in the days of
the FiskGould combination but it is not
probable that they will be Jay is an
older bird now than he was then

The Galveston News gets mad because
some other editor has misunderstood Its
position in the matter of blaming Attorney
General Hogg for personally discounte-
nancing lawlessness The fact is some
of the positions taken and some of the
editorials in the News could not be un-
derstood by forty Philadelphia lawyers
Stupidity is the characteristic of very
many of the News editorials Some of
them may be intelligible to the writer
himself but are mere jargon to the read-

Morgan Tkx ilay 31 The Morgan
WaterworkM and Ice Company is a new
enterprio for this city the organization
of which having only been perfected a few
days since Those who have taken stock
thus far are among the best business-
men in the town Seventy shares have
already been taken and but little effort
was made to sell them They will soon
begin work in earnest and there is
scarcely room to doubt success will at-
tend them As soon as the necessary
money is subscribed an eight inch well
will be bored in a central location
of the city The contractor
is to bore the well guarantees a suffi-
ciency of water to supply th whole o t
and until he has procured such a supply
will not exact a cent When the well is
finished an ice factory will be established
Those who invest in this enterprise feel
that they are but casting bread upon
the waters All the business places
and most of the residences in the city
will be supplied with water conducted
by underground pipes from this well
Thus Morgan will have a good system of
waterworks which though not so ex-
pensive as those of larger cities will be
equal to all the demands of our little city
