A PERSONAL MESSAGE FROM
JESUS TO OUR CHURCH: The Ev-
ening Sermon.
THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK
Rationing but Smiling
The sentence which has most in-
fluenced my life is “Some persons
grumble because God placed thorns
among roses. Why not thank God
because be placed roses among
thorn$?” I first read it when but a
mere lad. Since that day it has oc-
cupied a front room in my life, and
has given it an optimistic trend.
—Rev. BenjaminFranklin
Religion si not a way of looking at
certain things, But a certain way of
looking at all things. — Anon.
Your daily duties are a part of
your religious life just as much as
your devotion. — Beecher.
OUT OF GAS
The Rev. L. P. Parker of the
Presbyterian Church will speak Sun-
day morning on the timely topic,
“Out of Gas”, a subject that is upper
most in the minds of many people
now. The matter will be discussed
thoroughly, and spiritual applications
will be made. Mr. Parker says do not
let ga3 rationing keep you away from
church.
The public is cordially invited, to
attend this service.

J. PERRY KINO, Pastor
It looks like the time is coming
when we are to have a Chance to
know God. In the forty sixth Psalm
our maker himself said, “Be still
and know that I am God.” Gasoline
rationing may give us a better
chance to get acquainted with him.
In the last few years we have been
taught the art of being strenuous
until we have almost lost the ait of
being still. It is a great gain to be
immersed in service. It is a high
ambition to be strenuous. And yet
the Bible never says be strenuous
and know I am God. It says be still
and know that I am God. The Lord
works far more often in this
strange world by hush than he does
hustling. The rain beats against the
window pane and awakens us by its
driving but the snow falls so silent-
ly that never an infant stirs within
its cradle. And yet the snow may.
block every road quite as effectual-
ly as soldiery and dislocate the
traffic of a nation. Ask Hitler. Ask
Stalin. The frost-comes with her si-
lent fingers and lightly touches field
and meadow and within a single
night works more effectually than a
thousand tractors. Silence comes
and gives people a chance to know
God and each other. Let us make a
blessing out of every hardship and
inconvenience of life whether real
or imaginary.

P. M. DEAN, Pastor
Levi Dean, Superintendent
The Hilltop Church observed its
first anniversary im its new bidd-
ing last Sunday. F. M. Dean, pastor,
and officers and teachers sponsored
an all-day service with dinner at
noon.
The public is invited to worship
at the Hilltop Baptist Church.
Bethany Temple Baptist
W. A. ROBERTS, Pastor
Mrs. Bailey is in Baylor Hospital
recuperating from an operation for
appendicitis. The pastor and Mrs.
Roberts visited her Sunday after-
noon and she is doing nicely.
Mrs. Morton, mother of Mrs.
Claude Carder, is able to be up a-
gain, after a week’s serious illness.
We are glad to see her up and
about.
The pastor and Mrs. Roberts
were the dinner guests of Mr. and
Mrs. W. C. Ballard at six o’clock
Thanksgiving Evening; of Mr. and
Mrs. W. E. Godwin and Harold Joe
at 7:00 o’clock Saturday evening
and with Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Hol-
brook for the noon meal Sunday.
Fine fellowship was enjoyed in all
these homes.
The first real cold snap of the
season cut down on our attendance
last Sunday. We imagine that every-
one was able to find his or her way
to work, and that the children
found a way to go to school ON
TIME Monday, though in spite of
the cold weather. Wonder how the
Lord feels about the way He is
treated?
And now with gas, and tire ra-
tioning coming on, will we make it
an excuse to be absent, or will we
find a way to be present? We find
ways to go other places, to our
work, to the places of amusement,
and to other places we WANT to go
to, then let us have enough religion
to find a way to get to our church
and to its services, and not look
about for an excuse, and stay home.
The more we go to church and
humble ourselves before God, the
sooner rationing will be over. If we
would have peace, personal, and
world-wide, it can be found ONLY
in God.
Bethany Temple Baptist invites
you to study God’s word with them
at 9:45 each Sunday morning, to at-
tend preaching at eleven each Sun-
day morning; to come to our Train-
ing Service at 7:00 each Sunday
evening, and our preaching services
at 8:00 each Sunday evening, and
come together for prayer at 8:00
each Wednesday evening, followed
by choir practice.

First Quarterly Conference with
Rev., Cicero B. Fielder, District Sup-
erintendent of the Greenville District
will be held at our church 4 o’clock
next Sunday afternoon. Reports to
be submitted by the various depart-
ments of the church and Sunday
School will show encouraging results
accomplished in first quarter. Rev.
Fielder will preach at the 7:30 ev-
ening service and no doubt a splen-
did congregation will be present. Rev
Fielder is one of the outstanding lea-
ders in Methodism, and has mapy
friends throughout the Southwest
who expect to see him go high in
Methodist Circles.
Sunday School attendance last
Sunday numbered 174 members pre-
sent compared with 26 0 members
present same Sunday last year. With
our membership scattered from Riley
to Dallas the tire rationing will, no
doubt, be keenly felt.
Bishop John M. Moore of Dallas,
one of our outstanding leaders, will
occupy the pulpit Sunday morning,
December 13. While Bishop Moore is
now retired he continues very- active
and no doubt the chudch will be fil-
led to overflowing to hear this truly
great Christian man.
Special envelopes will be passed
out coming Sunday and the next for
contributions to the Waco Methodist
Orphanage whoch now takes care of
450 children. Every year Pleasant
Mound, together with hundreds of
other Methodist churches throughout
the state send a special Christmas
offering. Last year Pleasant Mound
Methodist contributed $108.00 at
Christmas time and during the year
increased this amount to a total of
$164.00 from our Sunday School. Be
sure to secure a special envelop and
drop in collection any time during
the next three weeks. Every effort
will be made to raise at least $200
for this most worthy cause.
