ginners course in French, and has for its aim the teaching of
the fundamentals of French Grammar. Included in the course
are: translations, dictations, memory work, short themes, and
conversation. Credit: 6 semester hours.
French 11 a, b. FRESHMAN FRENCH.----The aim of this
course is to give the student a more thorough knowledge of
written and oral composition, and to increase his comprehen-
sion of and his interest in the language. The course includes:
grammar review, conversations in French, translations, and an
introduction to French Literature.
French 21 a, b. FRENCH COMPOSITION AND LITERATURE.
-This course includes a study of French Literature with a
view of giving the student a broader knowledge of French.
Selected Novels from Hugo, Dumas, Sand, etc. Prerequisite:
French 11 a, b. or its equivalent. Outside readings required
with book reports in French. Credit: 6 semester hours.
French 31 a, b. HISTORY OF FRENCH LITERATURE.-This
course includes a general survey of French Literature, and
the reading of representative works of the important writers
of each period. Parallel readings and reports in French are
required. Required of all French majors and minors. Pre-
requisite: French 21 a, b. Credit: 6 semester hours. Advanced.
(Not offered in 1937-38).
French 41 a, b. MODERN LITERATURE.-A general reading
course in Modern French Literature. Parallel readings and
reports in French are required. Novels are chosen from the
works of Paul Bourget, Anatole France, Pierre Loti, etc.
Prerequisite: French 31 a, b. Credit: 6 semester hours. Ad-
vanced. (Not offered in 1937-38).
French 46 a, b. LITERATURE OF THE CLASSIC PERIOD.-
This course includes an intensive study of the literature of the
seventeenth century, with special stress upon the works of
Racine, Corneille, and Moliere. Prerequisite: French 41 a, b.
Credit: 6 semester hours. Advanced. (Not offered in 1937-38).
LATIN
Latin 10 a, b. FIRST YEAR LATIN.-T--This course is open
to all college students who have had no Latin. It is the equiva-
lent of the first two years of high school Latin. It consists of:
