"A Strong America is a Peaceful America!"
Citizens of Kendall County and vicinity are invit-
ed to join the City of San Antonio in paying tribute to
our UNITED STATES ARMY during Army Week,
April 6-12.
Plan to visit San Antonio and take an active part
in the interesting and educational programs to be of-
fered at the following military installations or loca-
tions. No admission will be charged and everyone is
cordially invited.
SUNDAY, APRIL 6
Sunrise Easter Service, Randolph Field Chapel,
6:00 A. M.
Open House and Organ Recital, Ft. Sam Houston
Chapel, 2:00 to 4:00 P. M.
Army Band Concert, Alamo Plaza and Travis Park
2:00 to 3:30 P. M.
MONDAY, APRIL 7
Army JDay Parade through downtown San An-
tonio. Parade will start at 2:00 P. M. on N. Alamo
Street, proceeding south to Commerce, west to Soledad,
north to Houston Street, and east to Alamo Plaza.
Open House at Randolph Field, Monday through
Friday, 2:00 to 5:00 P. M.
TUESDAY, APRIL 8
Open House at Ft. Sam Houston, with conducted
tours and outdoor exhibits, 9 A. M. to 5:00 P. M.
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 9
Open House at Brooke Army Medical Center, Ft.
Sam Houston, with field exhibits and conducted pro-
fessional and non-professional tours, 9:00 to 5:00 P.M.
THURSDAY, APRIL 10
Open House at Brooks Field, 9:00 A. M. to 5:00 P.
M., with Review and Presentation of Decorations at
10:00 A. M.
FRIDAY, APRIL 11
Retreat Parade at Ft. Sam Houston, 4:30 P. M.
SATURDAY, APRIL 12
Open House at Indoctrination Division, 9:00 to 12
A. M., with Review and Parade at 10:00 A. M.
Open House at Kelly Field, 1:00 to 5:00 P. M., fea-
turing the spectacular gas model airplane State Cham-
pionship Meet with total prizes of over $500 at 2:00
P. M.
Be sure to visit the numerous Army Week displays
featured in the show windows of downtown stores.
Young men can help keep America STRONG by
enlisting in the Regular Army. Investigate this oppor-
tunity for a career with good pay at the U. S. ARMY
RECRUITING STATION, 118 Broadway, San Antonio,

GUS W. GERFERS
Funeral services were held
Friday, March 21, for Gus W.
Gerfers of Kendalia, who died at
the_ home of his sister, Mrs.
Julia Elbel, in San Antonio on
March 20, 1947.
Mr. Gerfers was born July 29,
1871 at Anhalt, Texas in Comal
County. In infancy he was
christened into the Lutheran
Church. In 1891 he was married
to Miss Annie Kneupper, whose
death occurred in 1893.
Survivors are four sisters,
Mrs. Mathilda Schmidt, Blanco,
Mrs. Julia Elbel, San Antonio,
Mrs. Mary Kretzer, San Antonio
Mrs. Carles Vollmering, John-
son City; two brothers, Joe Ger
fers, New Braunfels and Conrad
Gerfers, Marion, Texas.
Rev. Kirkpatrick of San Anto-
nio conducted the services. Bur-
ial was in the Gerfers cemetery
at Kendalio. Hhe Wall Funeral
Home had charge of arrange-
ments. t

Mr. and Mrs. Gus Solms of
Galveston have purchased four
beautiful acres of land from
Mrs. Louise Bergmann on the
Herff Road.
They will start construction
of a modern ranch type rock
home in the late summer. We
join the citizens in welcomiing-
these fine citizens to our com
munity.

CHANGES OWNERSHIP
Mr. and Mrs. R. Purvis of St.
John Michigan have bought the
Hill Country Bar-B-Q from Mrs
Zeta Smith and Mr. and Mrs.
Doug. Richards.
Before coming to Boerne they
operated the Busy Bee Restau-
rant at St. Johns, Michigan anc
have many successful years in
the restaurant business.
The name of the new busi-
ness will be Ray & Ann’s Bar-
B-Q.
They visited Boerne on their
vacation during Christmas and
decided they liked our climate
‘and country so they returned to
Michigan sold their business and
came back here to live.
We join the citizens in wel-
coming these fine people to our
midst.

Church March 28th at 7 p. m.
when Mrs. Lois Hale became
the bride of Clarence Bourgeois
The bride wore a grey suit

bert Soell, sister and brother-
