Edcouch-Elsa and the
Edinburg High School, on
their Honors Day program.
Mrs. Magee announed
that Mrs. Lucile Henricks,
member of the Rio Grane
Chapter, McAllen had calld
her to state their Chapter
would be host to the Flag
Day breakfast this year on
Saturday, 12th at the
Holiday Inn, at 9:30. The
Col. Henry Hill, Chapter,
Mission will give the
program. Reservations
must be made by
Thursday, June 13.
The final report was that
given by Mrs. J. Connally
Kelly of Pharr, as Chairman
of the nominating
committee, with Mrs. Ludie
Pickens, and Mrs. Anne L.
Magee completing the
committee. The following
were nominated and elcted
by accalmation.
Regent Mrs. Walter A.
Henricksen: Vice Regent,
the chapters are asking that
everyone display a flag at
their home or busines on
Sunday, June 14. An effort
is being made to obtain the
medias help and forcefully
bring before everyone the
importance, and meaning of
our Flag. There should not
be a single public building
or businss without a flag
that day. Many individuals
already hve previously
displayed the flag on this
day, but lets have many
added to this group in each
community. We love
America for what the United
States Flag means to all of
us.

graduating classes. They
are selected by a vote of
their respective teachers
and fellow classmates. For
the Junior High School
category, Mrs. James E.
Irby reported the American
History award going to the
Junior High School
students selected by the
American history teacher
and approved • by the
Principal and Counselor.
Before closing Mrs. Anne
L. Magee announced the
observance of Flag Day.
There is a long standing
custom that this be
observed by the three DAR
Chapter, in rotation meeting
at a 9:30 breakfast. This
will be on Saturday, June
13 at the Holiday Inn in
McAllen. The Rio Grande
Chapter, McAllen will be
the host; the Col. Henry Hill
Chapter, Mission will give
the program, and the John
Minnis Chapter, Edinburg
will be the guest. This
event rotated every year.
In accordance with this,

repeating the DAR Pledge.
Delicious refreshmens
were served from a
beautiful set table with
Spring and summer fiowers
as a cener piece. The
refreshmens were served
by Mrs. Helen H. Doyle and
Mrs. Anne L. Magee.
Everyone enjoyed Mrs.
Kelly’s hospitality.
TREE DEDICATION: The retired Telephone Pioneers of the Val-
ley, dedicated a navel orange tree to Step-House Inc. of Pharr. Al-
though not too many improvements have been going inside the
building, there has been some remarkable work done on the ou-
side or the garden of the area. Pictured are the Retired Telephone

collectors and drivers. “We
want people to know that the
lowrider movement is not
what people think. We’re not
bad guys, we're just collec-
tors,” said Garza.

competition.

Lowrider Club of Pharr is Po-
lo Garza who is also the own-
er A-OK Taxi. “I got started
with lowriders as a hobbie. I
used to be into hot rods, but
my brother came up with the
idea of lowrider collecting
and competing,” said Garza.
Although the group com-
petes as one club, each indi-
vidual car owner finances his
own paint or interior uphols-
tery jobs on his own car. The
most money that has been
invested in a lowrider car by
a member of the Pharr club is
$ 3800 by Freddy Sandoval
all 1950 car, etc.
At the Mercedes Lowrider
competition, Freddy Sando-
val received a second place
trophey for his 1959 Chevy
for the BEST 1950’s car. Polo
Garza place third in the
same competition with his
1956 Chevy.
A special entry by the club
was made. They place a
Chopper moterbike in the
motorcycle competition and
placed second. The team
overall received a Participa-
tion trophey for entering the
competition.
The Pharr Club also did
well in the Raymondville Car
Club Contest. Las Unidos
isions have been taking
place.
The Mercedes Jesters, a
lowrider club in that city, re-
cently put together a show
and competition of lowriders.
Such car. collectors and de-
signers from up and down
the Valley competed in the
special events.

There are different div-
isions for lowriders competi-
tions. There is a division for
the car with the best outside
appearance, and one div-
ision for the car with the best
interior. There is a division
base on the best car for that
year. Such as the Best Over-
Next competition for low-
rider car collectors is sched-
uled for June 21 in McAllen.
“Later on we hope to help
clubs and organizations in
Pharr to raise money by put-
ting on shows,” said Garza.
