Gonzalez recommended as successor
Ribbon Cutting- Texas Valley Fruit Market had its ribbon

Pan American registration sets
Pan American University students will begin registering for
classes Aug.24. Classes will begin the following Monday,
Aug. 29. Those planning to take evening classes on the
Edinburg campus will register beginning at 5:30 p.m. Aug.
24 in the University’s Fieldhouse. All other students will
register Aug. 25 and 26. Registration will begin at 8:00 a.m.
Rio Grande Chorale
The Rio Grande Valley Chorale is now beginning auditions
for new choir members for the 1983-1984 concert season.
Openings are filled by either direct invitation or auditions.

Jaime’s resignation
Amid pleas that he recon-

decision to step down as
head of The Pharr Inter-
national Bridge Committee
and also announced that he
was removing himself from
the membership.
Several members of the
Committee, including ex-

stood up to ask Jaime that he
remain as Chariman. “No one
is more qualified than you”,
said Newcomb.
Jaime stated that he wanted
to put an end to the
“chismes” (gossip). “Mayor
Barrera did not ask for my
resignation.” He said he was
merely putting himself on
waivers “like an injured
player.”

The Pharr-San Juan-Alamo
Board of trustees met

On the bid for gasoline, a
question arose concerning
possible nepotism. Guerra
stated that it was being
looked into by the State At-
toney General. Lizcano
suggested the bidders be
asked to resubmit to see if
Southwestern bell offers $5,000
reward
Southwestern Bell has
established a $5,000 reward
for information leading to the
arrest and indictment of the
person or persons respon-
sible for three incidents in-
volving malicioua damage to
telephone equipment.
Incidents reported Tuesday
evening involved telephone
outages in Pharr. Ap-
proximately 85 customers
were totally out of service
when wires were cut at three
locations.
T wenty residential
customers lost all telephone
capabilities when wires were
cut at 901 E. Evens. In ad-
dition, 30 business customers
were affected by severed
wires at Kelly and S. “I” Road.
Tamparing with telephone
cable at the corner of Ridge
Road and South “I” Road
caused loss of service to
another 35 telephone
customers.
“The telephone network is
too critical to the lives of
every person in the area to
allow those responsible for
these acts to go unpun-
sihed,” said Sonia Perez,
company spokesman. “We
fully support the aggressive
prosecution of these persons
and consequently we are of-
fering the *5,000 reward for
their arrest and indictment.”
She urged anyone with in-
fromation about these in-
cidents to call local police.
