DATE SET FOR SENATE
ELECTION
Governor Price Daniel has set
Tuesday, April 4, for a special
election to name a successor for
U. S. Senate for Vice-President
Elect Lydon B. Johnson.
It is one day short of the 90
days the Governor is permitted
to allow for campaigning in a
special election.
Previously appointed to fill
this vacancy was William A.
Blakeley of Dallas. He is one of
nine who have announced so far
as candidates for the remainder
of the 6 year term which John-
son was elected in November at
the same time he was being elec
ted Vice-President.
This special election date chos
en by Daniel will in many cities
coincide with city election dates
