rison Keillor's boos. "Lake Wobegon
Days," which was on the bestseller
list (or ao many months, will certain-
ly want to read "Leaving Home A
Collection of Lake Wobegon
Stories "
The jacket says, "Almoot every
Saturday night for the past thirteen
years. Garrison Keillor has drawn
listeners to "A Prairie Horne Com-
panion,'' a trip into the beguiling and
comic world of Lake Wobegon,
quintessential American small town
— The town that time forgot, that
the decades cannot improve'"

From Sandwiches To Sweets
Peanut Butter Always A Hit
In every American home someone
loves the tajfcs ol peanut butter
From children and their peanut but-
ter sandwiches to adults stuffing
celery stiefcz, everyone enjoys it.
There may even be a peanut but-
ter thief around the hou.se You open
the jar of peanut butter and it's
almost empty, and the last tune you
looked it was almost fuLV
Before your peanut butter jar is
empty, try .some these delicious
PEANUT BUTTER

H cup Creamy Peanut Butter

1 cup raisin*

4 cup dried figs, chopped
Preheat oven to slow 300 degrees.
Heat together peanut butter, honey
and cinnamon m small saucepan un-
til just heated through and liquidy.
stir well. Add vamila
Spread oats out onto 15xl0xl-tnch

butter mixt ure over oats and stir un-
ai oat*; arc coated Spread evenly in
pan
Bake in preheated slow wen 300
vjegreirs. stirring occasionally, for 35
to 40 mnt.tes oi until golden. Turn
off ovf*n
Meanwhile, soak raisins in boiling
water to tover in small bowl for 10
minifies until plump Drain well. Stir
raisins, peanuts *nd figs into oat
mixture on pan Return pan to oven
Let mixture dry in tumed-off oven,
stir ring occasionally, for 14 hours
Store in airtight containers
FROZEN PEANUT
BI TTER PIE
I V cup* graham cracker crumbs
IV, cups cn
21 bu'.tcr,
4 cup chocolate syrup
3 cups vanilla ice cream, slightly
softened
Blend crumbs, 4 cup peanut but
ler and butter in large bowl with
fingers until well blended. Press
crumb mixture firmly into greased
9-inch pie plate Drizzle crust with 1
tablespoon of the cliocolate syrup
Fnac i o set crust, 15 minutes
Swir? together ice cream, remain-
ing peanut butter and 1 tablespoon
syrup; mixture does not need u? be
completely blended Spoon into
crust
Freeze until ice cream is very
firm, at least 4 hours Drizzle each
serving with some of the remaining
syrup.

AND JELLY CAKE
2 rupa unsifted flour
IT baking powder
It. salt
4 cup (i stick) butter or
margarine, softened
4 cup creamy peanut butter
14 cap* sugar
2 eggs
1 cup milk
It vanilla
4 cup grape jelly
Peanut Butter Frosting, recipe
follows
Jelly for garnish 1 optional)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Grease and flour two 9xl4-indi
round layer cake pan
Sift together.flour, baking powder
and salt onto wax paper Beat
together butter and peanut tatter ui
large bowl with electric mixer at
high speed until well blended.
Gradually beat m sugar until light
and fluffy Beat in eggs, one at a
time, beating well after each addi-
tion Beat in Hour mixture alternate-
ly with milk, beginning and ending
with flour mixture, until well blend-
ed Add varulla Pour into prepared
pans, dividing batter equally.
Bake in preheated 350 degree oven
fox' 30 to 35 minutes or until wooden
pick inserted in centers c omes out
clean Cool in pans on wire rack for
10 minutes Invert cakes onto wire
rack to cool completely
Spread jelly between layers Frost
top and sides with Frosting Garnish
top with bands of jelly, if you wish

softened butter or margarine and 14
cup plus 2 tablespoons creamy
