JULY 10 DATE SET TO ISSUE
SMALL-SIZED CURRENCY
Secretary Mellon Sunday an-
BOimeed that July 10 has been
*et for the beginning of the issue
©f the new small-sized currency.
’The issue will be made through
3the Federal Reserve Banks and
"branches. For the initial issue,
Federal Reserve banks have been
authorized to make available to
the commercial banking institu-
tions of there respective districts
limited amounts of new small-
size currency, on an equitable bas-
is established by them. Federal
Reserve Banks will communicate
•srith all banks and trust com-
ipanies in their respective dis-
tricts, giving full instructions for
participation in the initial distri-
bution of the new currency.
The first issues of the new
ssmall-size currency will include
all kinds ejxcept national bank
motes, and all denominations' from
$1 to $20. Small-size gold certifi-
~ ana -federal iteserve note#
in denominations above $20 will
be issued at a later date. Small-
sized national bank notes will be
printed and issued in order of
charter numbers, beginning about
July 15, 1929.
For the reduced size currency
wholly new designs on a denomi-
national basis have been adopted.
The revision of designs will elimi-
nate existing confusion, and will
furnish a,new and more effective
protection ot the currency issues
of the United States against
counterfeiting and fraudulent al-
terations- Generally speaking,
the designs have been simplified,
and, as just indicated, there is a
characteristic design for each
denomination.
The new size for the paper cur-
rerfqy is 6 5-16 x 2 11-16 inches.
The principal of denominational
designs has been strictly fol-
lowed. The back designs are uni-
form for each denomination irre-
spective of kind. The face de-
signs, likewise, are characteristic
for each denomination as regards
the important protective features,
with only sufficient variation in
detail to indicate the kind. Five
kinds of paper currency are now
issued—United States notes, sil-
ver certificates, gold certificates,
Federal Reserve notes and na-
tional bank notes. The new de-
signs will be applied to all issu-
able denominations of all these
kinds.
The portraits assigned to the
.faces and embellishments pro-
vided for the backs of the several
denominations are as follows:
$1, Washington, ornate one on
back; $2, Jefferson, Monticello;
$5, Lincoln, Lincoln Memorial;
amilton, U. !3. Treasury;
$20, Jackson, White House; :50,
Grant, U. S- Capitol; $100, Frank-
lin, Independence Hall; $500, Mc-
Kinley, ornate 500; $1,000, Cleve-
land, ornate 1.000; $5,000, Madi-
son, ornate 5,000; $10,000, Chase;
ornate 10,000.
The backs of the new* curren-
cy will be printed uniformly in
green; the faces will be printed
in black, and the treasury seals
and the serial numbers will be
imprinted in the following colors:
Silver certificate, blue; United
States notes, red; Gold certifi-
cates, yellow; Federal Reserve
notes, green; National bank notes,
brown.—Dallas News.

WEAK AND THIN
Virginia Lady Was Just Drag-
ging Around. Health Im-
proved Steadily After
She Took Cardui.
Bristol, Va.—“I was just aboufl
down in bed and so weak I was past
going,” writes Mrs. Jennie Goodman,
of 718 Portsmouth Avenue, this city.
Mrs. Goodmen says her family was
very uneasy about her condition, as
she seemed so weak and thin.
“I ached all over,” she explains,
“and my back and sides hurt most
of the time.
“I dragged around, and did not
see a day of good health.
“I went to call on one of my
neighbors, and she remarked about
my looking so bad. She told me to
get a bottle of Cardui and take it.
Next Saturday night, my husband
brought it home to me.
“Before I- had taken Cardui a!
week, I was*feeling much better. I
continued taking it for awhile, as
my health kept on improving.
“I gained in weight, and soon was
feeling like a new person. Since
then I have taken Cardui several
times, and it has always done me
(good. I can recommend it to others.”'
Cardui has been in use so long;
that its merit has been proved by
the experience of several genera-
tions of women.
A purely vegetable, medicinal tonic.
For sale by all druggists.
