The hride-honoree was the former
Mina Florence Burns, of Browns-
ville, attractive member of the
younger set of tl\at city, She has a
wide circle of Kingsville friends
who extended a hearty welcome to
our city to this newcomer.
The spacious, green length of
lawn made bright with gay lawn
furniture and blossoming summer
flowers, dotted with spreading
shade trees, ferns and shrubs, gave
aitractive setting for this delight-
ful affair, where an atmosphere of
true hospitality pervaded every de-
tail. Southern moss hung from the
trees and the Japanese lanterns
and large balloons swaying in the
soft summer breeze, added a fes-
tive note. Throughout the evening
music was played by a group of
Mexican serenaders.
Little Misses Elvanlta and Shir-
ley Jean Parker, gowned in pink
and white organdy, greeted the
guests as they arrived. In the re-
ceiving line to welcome the call-
ers were the hostesses and Mrs. E.
V. Allen, mother of Mrs. O. A.
Smith, who presented the charm-
ing honoree, and Mrs. Frank Allen,
Sr., 'knd Mrs. Frank Allen, Jr., of
Corpus Christl. Further greetings
were given by the house par*y

Hibler, Mrs. Chas. Flato Hi, and

(irace Barnett, Johnnie Mae De-
Itauri and Valmia Gibbs. A soft
blend of colors was added to the
out-of-door scene hy the garden
frocks of interesting summer fab-
rics in pastel tints worn by this
group.
More than a hundred guests call-
ed during the evening.
Bridge Shower Compliment*
Bride
A delightful courtesy of last
Tuesday evening was held at the
home of Mrs. Vic Sralla with Miss
«* Kellie Kleinian and Bessie Bees,
co-hostesses at a bridge shower,
complimenting Mra. O. O. Lumpkin,
bride of the month of June. Mrs.
Lumpkin will be better remember-
ed as the former Miss N’ita Bitter-
man.
Bridge games, the favored diver-
sion, were enjoyed by several tallies
of players. Miss Frances Frede
was winner of the high score tro-
phy. As her reward for card scor-
ing, the bride received an amusing
novelty gift. She was then present-
ed with a shower of lovely gifts of
linen. A salad course was served
twenty guests. Miss Doris Besch,
of Houston, formerly of this city,
was an out-of-town guest.
Lawn Picnic Given By Business
and Professional Women’s Club
The attractive lawn of the home
of Mrs. Floyd Porterfield on Sec-
ond Street was the setting for an
enjoyable occasion Monday even-
ing at six-thirty o’clock, when a
group of the Business and Profes-
sional Women’s Club held a lawn
picnic. The colored lights strung
from the large shade trees which
dotted tlie spacious lawn gave a
festive note to the occasion. About
twelve club members were present.
Will Return Friday
Reverend Harry Taylor Burke,
rector of the Church of the Ephi-
fWmny, will return Friday from
Boling Green, Kentucky, where he
has been at the bedside of
his grandmother. Members of the
Episcopal Church have been noti-
fied that services will be resumed
Sunday morning.
Attending Convention
Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Huppertz
and daughter, Patsy, left Sunday
for Galveston where Mr. and Mrs.
Huppertz are attending the Slate
meeting of the Texas Florists’
Association. During the Florists’
Convention, Mr. and Mrs. Huppertz
•will attend a 2-day short course
conducted by the Association.

Kingsville Girls Attend
Camp
The San Antonio Girls Scout
Camp at Comfort, Texas, has
among its group a number of
Kingsville girls who have enrolled
for the summer activities. Those
attending are Misses Valmia Gibbs
and Lorena Stahl who left Sunday
to begin their four weeks stay;
‘Sara Reed Moore, Billy Young, and
Sarah Lou Cypher, who have been
in camp for several weeks.

Missionary Society
Miss Mary Alexander, mission-
ary to China with headquarters at
Canton, who is spending the sum-
mer with her mother and sister.
Mrs. Alexander and Miss Frances
Alexander in this city, will be the
guest speaker at a meeting of the
Women's Missionary Society of the
First Baptist Church to be held
Thursday afternoon at .1 o’clock.

Shirley Temple Club
Concludes Meetings
The Death and Burial of Cock-
rnhhin, a favorite child’s story, was
portrayed quite cleverly with cos-
tume and scenery at the last meet-
ing and program given by the Shir-
ley Temple Club, held Saturday at j
1:15 at the Rialto Theatre. Mrs. J. I
V-. Chandler was the director and
supervisor of this club which bus
been providing interesting diver-
sion in playlet form for the children I
of Kingsville. The Saturday meet- j
ing concluded the meetings of the |
Shirley Temple Club.
The sad, sad story of Cockrob-
bin was featured in two scenes, i
The first scene. His Courtship and j
Marriage, and (lie second scene, the
Death and Burial of Cockrobbin.

set with a delightful party, Monday
afternoon from five until seven
o'clock, complimenting her son.

Stephenson and Mrs. Frank Har-
per. Clusters of gaily colored spring
flowers ornamented the home for
this occasion.
