FRANK BEAUMAN DIES

I Avis Beauman, at Pawhuska, Okla.,
I by Miss Elizabeth Townsen Sunday
1 morning, stating- that her father,
| Frank Beauman, had died early Sun-
! day morning-, and would be buried
j Wednesday at Roxton, Lamar county,
! Texas. The deceased lived in Lam-
i pasas for a number of years and has
a large number of friends here who
, will be grieved to know of his death.
■ He has been in a critical condition for
: about a year-, and was taken to Mayo
; Bros, hospital and everything possi-
i ble was done to restore him to health,
: but of no avail.
INSTRUMENTS FOR JUNIOR
BAND ARRIVE
Saturday afternoon Bandmaster E.
M. Shepperd unpacked the musical in-
struments for the junior band which
had just ari’ived, and soon the juniors
will be “crowding” the senior band.
About twenty instruments were re-
ceived including three clarinets,, six
cornets, five slide trombones, one
baritone, two altos, two drums. With
two bands and an orchestra Lampasas
should have music for all occasions.

Mattie Sue, arrived Tuesday morning
from Silsbee, Hardin county, on a
visit to Mrs. Ruther Rice, who is a
niece of Mrs. Pickett.
RAINFALL .76 OF AN INCH
The rainfall of Saturday night and
Sunday morning amounted to .76 of
an inch, and indications are good for
more rainfall. It is said it will be
beneficial to the corn and cotton and
garden truck, and as it has dried off
will not damage the grain very much.

W. C. Bonner and R. E. Rawls re-
turned Monday afternoon from Cor-
pus Christi. They had intended going-
on to Brow-nsville and over into Mex-
ico, but the heavy rains in that sec-
tion made the roads impassable and
they were forced to abandon the trip
and turn back.
Captain Walter Acker of Houston
was in Lampasas Tuesday greeting
old friends and renewing acquaint-
ances. He lived here many years ago
and was among the well known citi-
zens at that time.
The Leader is under special obli-
gation to J. C. Griffin for the splendid
report of the meeting held at Bend
Friday, for the purpose of organizing
and securing the state park which is

Light sprinkle of rain fell Friday
night and the air was cool and re-
freshing. Billy Hart, the weather man
at Eagle Pass, predicts rain for Lam-
pasas on June 24th. His predictions
have been hitting- the mark pretty
well during this month, and we might
just as well put the washtub under
the leak on the 24th.
OBREGON CANCELS
EXPULSION ORDER
City of Mexico, June 19.—Proceed-
ings of the Mexican Government to
expel Herbert C. Cummins, British
agent, were ordered stopped Thursday
by President Obregon upon his arrival
in the City of Mexico. This action
was taken by the president after he
had conferred with Foreign Minister
Saenz.
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Burkhalter, of
Goose Creek, are here visiting in the
homes of Mrs. Burkhalter’s brothers,
Rubel and Emmett Shanks. They will
be here for a week or more.
Mrs. Ben Peak, who is in the hos-
pital at Temple recuperating from an
operation for appendicitis, is reported
as doing splendidly and bids fair to
recover rapidly.
Mrs. Ida Armstrong and daughter,
Miss Lola, are here from Merkel vis-
iting in the home of Mrs. W. R.
Wagle. Mrs. Armstrong will be re-
membered here as Miss Ida Hawkins,
who taught school here at one time.
They wiil visit in the Unity communi-
ty, before returning to their home.
Rev. J. M. Smith, who has been here
for the past several days visiting in
the home of his sister, Mrs. W. P.
Mathis, left Tuesday morning for his
home at Marshall.
Mrs. W. C. Windham and children
who have been visiting in the home
of Mrs. Windham’s mother, Mrs. J.
E. Vernor, for several days, left Tues-
day morning for their home at Cen-
ter.
Mrs. L. C. Ulrich, of Wichita Falls,
is here visiting in this section and is
a guest of her brother, D. T. Briggs
and family, and Mr. and Mrs. Louis
Ulrich. She will also visit in the
Kempner section.
