FIRST WOMAN EDITOR to receive its annual editor/pub-
lisher award from Gulf Oil Corporation was Hazel Gar-
land of The New Pittsburgh Courier. It was presented at
the Awards Banquet at the national convention of the Nat-
rona! Association of Newspaper Publishers in Pittsburgh
by Gulf's Executive Vice President Harold Hammer, right.
Roy Kohler, Gulf's Manager-Community Relations, left,
also praised the career of Mrs. Garland during remarks
at the banquet annually hosted by Gulf. Previous winners
include Frank Stanley, John Sengstacke, Carl Morris, the
late Julius Carter, the late E. Washington Rhodes, Long-
worth Quinn, William Walker and C. C. DeJoie, Jr. A cash
award accompanied the trophy.

The meeting. wa,s a business
session and consisted of Zone
Chairmen reports and (Commit-1
tee reports.
Much inspiration was gained
from the sermons and addresses -
delivered by the several speak-
ers who appeared on this' pro-
gram.
There was program planning,
for ithe (1974 Annual Session
which will be held October 7th
through the 10th. This meeting
will be held with the St. James
Baptist IChurch of Tyler, Rev.
E. O. Sweet, 'Pastor. Plans are
being made to make this the
largest Annual Meeting in the
One Hundred and five years of
the Association’® existence. Mo-
re than 100 .churches will be
represented In this meeting. |

“Bud” Booth were held Sat-
urday June 8, 1974 alt 10:00 a.m.
in the St. James C.M.E Church
Reverend A. King, officiating.
Mr. Eliga L. Booth was bom
January 13, 1892, in Deberry,
Texas.
He moved to Tyler and united
with the St James C.M.E.
Church. He remained a faithful
member until his death.
Mr. Booth departed /this life
