King Home is the only fully equipped Industrial School
for colored girls in the state of Texa.
It is under the care of the Woman's Home Missionary
Society of the Methodist Episcopal Church. The year just
ended has been the most successful since its organization.
Seventy-six have been in attendance. The Home is just a-
cross the street from Wiley University, and the girls in at-
tendance pursue their studies there.
There are accommodation for seventy. The third floor
of the building has been finished. The aim of the Home is to
teach economy, energy and neatness. Every woman ought to
know how to do her own work in the cheapest and most
healthful manner. Every girl who will follow the instruc-
tions here given, will be prepared to make food delicious, her
dining room attractive, and the plainest home beautiful.
The cost of boarding in the Home is seven dollars per
month, and by paying an additional $1.25, each girl may have
priviliges of the University.
A number of girls are aided each year by the W. H. M.
S. No one will receive such aid unless well recommended by
presiding elder and pastor and remain in school the eight
months. They are also required to take some special line of
religious work and industrial training that will fit them for
active work for the church.
Each girl will be required- to furnish her soap, starch,
towels, blankets and ironing sheet.
Sewing classes meet daily, and in addition to plain sew-
ing and fancy work, a special system of cutting and fitting is
