Lester Miller, the famous aviator,
accompanied by his mechanician J.
Virgil, arrived in Electra this morn-
:rff to prepare for their great aero-

The big* Curtis bi-plane was un-
packed and set up this morning on
the railroad right of way just m
front of the depot. It attracted a
large crowd of the curious who gath- ;

Last week a street fakir spent sev-
eral days on our streets selling cheap
jewelry to our people at good prices,
when we had two perfectly good jew-
elry stores that did not sell one-half
so much of the same goods. Farmers
that are always “hollering” hard
times bought this worthless stuff and
paid the cash, well knowing that the
man would be gone in a day or so and
then they would have no chance to
see him when the stuff proved worth-
less, rather than to buy at no higher
prices than the home jewelers who
are glad to make their eve *y promise
good. This smooth fakir took several
hundred good Childress county dollars
with him that now should be lying in
the tills of the home merchants, who
, help some people when they haven’t
j the dollars.—Childress Post.
Well, we’ve got it too, and we blush
with shame when we see our citizens
standing around handing out their
money to these smooth guys, but, if
nothing else will do for these thought-
less citizens than to give away their
money, we can’t help them, for the as-
ylum is already full and there is no
place to take care of them,
take care of them.
New York, Dec. 17.—Three lions
used in an animal act this afternoon
escaped while performing at Loew’s
Theatre on East Eighty-Sixth street
and dashed into the audience.
A panic ensued and the police re-
serves at all near-by stations were
called out.
Two men were shot by citizens at-
tempting to kill the animals.
Both were taken to the Flower Hos-
pital.

Mr. Miller and the local committee
in charge of this entertainment wish i;j|f^ ^
to urge everyone to keep away from |^
the machine and not try to crowd too
close in. There is great danger of 1^% ^
accidents if this is done as a sudden 11 ,-j|
gust of wind will veer the machine j ||, ^
many feet and may throw it into the , ||
crowd who are too close. Many j *
deaths have also resulted from crowds j
rushing into the field at the time !
landing is made at the conclusion of j
the flight, and warning is especially '
given against doing this. • The aviator
requires a large open space in which ,
to make his landing, and the machine j
runs for some distance after landing
on the ground. :
The peop’e will therefore confer a !
favor on Mr. Miller and the authori- '
ties by observing these precautions
and not endangering either their own
safety or that of the aviator. !

Mrs. R. H. Cook returned home i
yesterday, accompanying her sister, I
Miss Chrystyne Iloxie, who has been !
at Dallas in a sanitarium for several j
weeks. Miss Hoxie says that home !
never looked so good to her in her
life as now, after gazing on the bare
hospital walls for two months. We (
are certainly glad to see Miss Hoxie 1
looking so well and predict that the |
Electra environments will cause her to
rapidly gain strength.
