- NEWSPAPER ENTERPRISE.
Enterprise hn‘d push are qualities
Which the Wichita Daily Tribune ad-
mires and is always glad to commend.
An example of the earnestness and
zeal which seem to be characteristic
of our neighbor city, Electra, was the
publication of a special editioq Sat-
urday morning by the Electra Daily
News in honor of the visit to that
place by the Editors’ special train
The paper comprised sixteen pages,
in two sections, and was loaded with
advertising from the wide-awake mer-
cantile establishments of Electra, anc
carried an interesting line of news,
"with* descriptive matter and illustra-
tions relative to the Electra-commu-
nifcyC
The Electra Daily News is a free
* circulation daily, covering the local
field,, and is ever found in line with the
progressive spirit so evident there.
That the paper and its efforts in be-
half of the city are appreciated by the
/people.of Electra, is evidenced by the
liberal .advertising patronage from the
business public.
The business men of Electra can
weil. afford to give the paper support
to which it is justly entitled as a live
promoter of the city’s best interests,
and id return the paper will be found
to be one of the strongest factors in
- the city’s growth and development.

Governor Says None Will Be Return-

Austin,*May 3.—Governor Colquitt,
upon his return from Dallas this morn
ing received advices by telegraph from
Brownsville and other border towns
that a report was current that state
troops were to be withdrawn from bor
der patrol prior to the arrival of fed-
eral troops which Secretary of War
Garrison has promised he would have
replace the militia in equal number.
The governor said with emphasis that
not a man of the state guard now do-
ing duty on the border would be with-
drawn until Secretary Garrison had
hi& troops in camp at Brownsville.

To Whomsoever This May Come:
On Sunday afternoon, April 26, a
disastrous cyclone struck the town of
Peacock, Stonewall county, and prac-
tically wiped it from the face of the
earth. Destruction of the business
section was complete—not a business
house was left. A large part of the
dwellings was also totally destroyed,
and a number of families are destitute
and homeless. Total loss will exceed
$100,000. So disastrous is the loss we
are forced to appeal for help to replace
these unfortunate in homes and pro-
vide them with food and clothing.
We earnestly appeal especially for lib-
eral cash contributions, and it will be
gratefully and thankfully received.
Send contributions to
G. A. GRAY,
Chairman Cyclone Relief Committee,
Peacock, Texas.
Donations will be received at the
mayor's office or the Electra News.
El Pascr, May* 3.—Several rebel,
leaders tonight declared Victoriano
Huerta was ready to step down and
out under the pressure of his cientifi-
co, who, they said, already regarded
rebel success as inevitable.
The constitutionalist leaders say
that on account of this belief they
would make no concessions when me-
diation came up as a result of the good
offices of the Argentina, Brazil and
Chile diplomats.
Rebel leaders in El Paso said the
good offices of the South American
diplomats were accepted by Huerta
only as a means of “saving his face.”
Out of the negotiations the support-
ers of Huerta, according to the rebels,
hope to save for themselves what they
can of their vast properties in Mexico,
and possibly some of their privileges.
General Carranza will be represent^
ed at the sessions of the board of me-
diation at Washington. Two of his
representatives will be Rafael Zubu-
rah, now in Washington, and Luis
Crabrera, now on his way to the Uni-
ted States from Spain. Crabrera was
president of the chamber of deputies
at Mexico City when Madero was over-
thrown. Two others may be appoint-
ed.
