Hillsboro Tex Jane 3 This morn-
ing at 9 oclock as freight train section
No 34 on the Missouri Pacific was going
south when about 300 yards from the
depot four empty stock cars about five
car3back from the engine were derailed
Tnree of the four cars were badly
wrecked and cross ties orofctii and tne
track torn up Fortunately no one was
hurt A braktman who waa on top ot
one of the derailed cars discovered the
cars in front ot him leaving the track and
ran Dack towards the rear ol tho train
thereby peinaps saving his life The
accident was caused by rotten cross ties
The track at this point ia in a fearful con-
dition The wrecking train was immedi-
ately dispatched for and arrived here at
11 oclock a m and by 19 oclock p m
the track tyas cleared so that trains could

Dr S H Stout who is an educitor of
more than local distinction delivered a-
very practical and interesting address
To his well directed f fforts and Intelligent
counsel the public schools of this placaare
largely indebted for the reputation they
enjoy of bfine among the btst in TexaB
in the matter of organization curriculum
and general management
Essays by the young lady graduatee
were replete with beautiful sentiment
eloquent expression and graceful diction
Tne valedictory by Burette Patterson
was delivered extempore in true oratori-
cal style
County Judge Himmons being present
was callea on and mads a characteristic
speech a mingling ot pathos and humor
Lieutenant Governor Wheeler presented
tne diplomas to the graduates In a neat
and happy address
The examination of the schools has oc
cupied two Weeks with very satisfactory
results in all the grades and our people
are freshly enthused oa tha subject of ed
ucation
