but she is also getting ready to improve
still more The record of transfers for the
week shows a fair trade in real
estate and agents without exception
say they have many inquiries for property
The Lake Como company yesterday sold to
David Bowder a 4000 residence on Arling-
ton Heights and also a S1500 residence to
Mr Bunting During the week lots were
sold to A A Messer for 1C00 on which he
will build a 5000 brick residence
Four lots in block CO Arlinston Heights
were sold to a well known citizen who will
erect a S5000 brick residence within sixty
days
Tha New Hotel
For several day3 forty men and twenty
two teams have been at work excavating
for the Arlington the new hotel mentioned
last week The Pecos stone is being
quarried as fast as possible in fact
some of it has already been rpceived and is
now on the side track at the Heights Car-
penters are at work on the framing and
brick are already on the ground The work
en this hotel is being pushed with vigor
The Brewery
The work of tearing away a portion of one
of the walls of the brewery preparatory to
enlarging tho plant has bogun and soon the
proposed additions will begin to go sky-
ward The present capacity is to be
doubled and the capital stock is now 300

J J Kane of this city has been appointed
supervising architect of tho proposed Fed-
eral building for Fort Worth and
there is positive information at
hand that work will bo commenced at
later than August 1 of this year and there
is a probability that worK will begin as

will have four fronts identically the same
the building to be erected in the center of
the block of ground purchased by the gov-
ernment

Ground was broken last week at Iowa
Park for a handsome brick building and
residences are going up in and wound the
town J
The Bell County poultry and stock asso-
ciation met at Holland and elected officers
for the ensuing year Tho object of the as-
sociation is the promotion of the culture of
thoroughbred poultry
Mr Good of Quanah and citizens of Clar
endon are working to establish a bank In
tho last mentioned city About 0000 has
been subscribed and it is thought the bank
will be in running order by the first of
April
Ceiling and other lumber to finish the
Methodist church at Kimball is on hand
and it is expected that the building will be
ready soon for occupancy
Tho water of the well at Hotel Velasco is
now distributed in different parts of the
city The Snider building has now the sec-
ond story framing in position and the other
work is progressing well There are now
in the town five brickyards with a capacity
of 80000 bricks a day
Abilene now has a Holloway chemical

The ladies of Blossom are giving a series
of entertainments to raise money for build-
ing a parsonage 4
The people of Sunset in mass meeting de-
cided that tho town should tako steps to in-
corporate for school purposes
The Quanah lodge A F and A M now
occupy their new hall and report a number
of applications for membqrship
The building and sheds of tho Tyler roll-
ing mills are being painted with red hetne
tito found at the plant just under the sur
face of tho ground
The commissioners of Hardeman county
are considering tho propriety of having
built a fireproof vault for a better protec-
tion of tho county records than the court-
house affords
The commissioners court of Denton
county has settled all claims for building
the new Jail which cost 19 000 The con-
tract to supply the city of Denton with
waterworks has been closed ana the con-
tractor is of tho opinion that they will bo
in operation about the middle of May
Channing Hartley county although not
two years old has a good waterworks sys-
tem and many of the progressive features
of older settled towns
Thera has been started this year near
Halo City tho first nursery on the plains
for tho propagation and sale of Iruit trees
vines and shrubbery
Daring tho past year there has been
graded in Cooke county 150 miles of road-
bed twentyfivo bridges built ono of them
costing 4000 and 2333 of county indebted-
ness paid off
Tho money necessary for tho improve-
ment of Aransas Pass harbor has been
subscribed amounting to about SOO000
Brisco a new county In the Panhandle Is
to be organized in March
The contractors for a new flouring mill at
Memphis Childress county are pushing
the work and expect to have it ready for
grinding within six weeks
At Nolanvillo Mr Waldon of Bolton is
making preparation for the Ifiilding of a
now cotton giu The plant will cost not
less than 10000 and its picking capacity
about forty bales per day Mr William
Cunningham has almost completed his new
residence north of tho academy and will
move his family Into it in a few weeks
The new Methodist pastor Rev Mr
Roberts preached his first sermon last Sun-

Bowon a prosperous farmer living about
three miles south of here met with a hor-
rible death late yesterday evening by
lightning Ho was returning from this
place with a wagon load of fanning imple-
ments So terrible was tho electrical stroke
that the unfortunate man was thrown sev-
eral feet from the wagon and his clothing
torn in threads and set on fire and his shoes
torn from his feet The horses fell dead in
their tracks and tho wagon was torn to
pieces The work of the lightning was
witnessed by tho family of a neighbor Mr
Wallacewhoso house stood but a ifcw yards
away Mr Wallace ran out to ftctlngulsh
the fragments of clothing on fire onihp body
and found him black in the face andfiorfiblv
