been employed in Dallas, is visit-
ing her mother, Mrs. Nolan Neu-
gent this week. She is enrolling
in East Texas State University in
Commerce.

ter-in-law, Mrs. Robert Sims of
Argo, who is a patient in a Mt.
Pleasant hospital, Monday.
Miss Mona Haynes, who attends
college in Searcy, Ark., spent the
week end with Mr. and Mrs. Jim-

to visit Mrs. Stewart.

Bogata WHD Club
With Miss Baker
Bogata WHD Club met at 2 p.
m. Thursday with Miss Selma Ba-
ker, hostess in her home. As pres-
ident of the club, the hostess pre-
sided over the meeting. ‘Battle
Hymn of the Republic” was led
by Mrs. Raymond Damron. Seven-
teen members answered roll call
with ‘My Part in WHD.” Five vis-
itors, Mmes. Kirb Lowry, Johnnie
Wright, Harold Geese, also Leon
Bell and Donnie McGregor, were
present. Mrs. Wright was welcom-
ed as a new member.
A ten minute demonstration,
“Miscellaneous Hobby Ideas” was
given by the hostess, and the Coun-
cil report by Mrs. Rubie Bell. Mrs.
Geese gave the program on ‘My
First Start.” Mrs. Wright won
the draw gift and Mrs. Jim Gar-
rett led the games.
Mrs. Damron will be hostess for
an all day meeting at her home
on February 2.

A miscellaneous shower, compli-
menting Miss Sandra Parks, who
will be married Jan. 23 to Jimmy
Gifford, was given Saturday even-
ing at the home of Mrs. Duane
Glover. Receiving guests were

rest Parks and Mrs. Finis Gifford,
mothers of the bride and groom.
Mrs. Tim Walker of Roxton,
presided at the registry where 100
names were entered in the bride’s
book. Mrs. Walker also presented
each guest an invitation to the
wedding which is to be at the First
Methodist Church, Saturday at 7
p. m. with the reception following
the ceremony at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Lqther Wright.
The refreshment table, covered
with a white cutwork cloth, was
centered with a floral arrangement
of white stock and red roses. White
tapers in crystal candleholders
and other crystal appointments
complemented the table decor.

Robert Sullivans
A shower for Mr. and Mrs. Rob-
ert Sullivan was held last Tues-
day night at the American Home
from 7 until 9 oclock. The Sulli-
vans’ home was destroyed by fire
several days ago.
Hostesses were Mmes. T. J. Bas-
inger, Kenneth Burks, Gerald
Parks, Charles Foster, Babe Ches-
shire, Glynn Harbison, John Thom-
as, Rab Skidmore, Bobby Burch-
field and Millard .Igo.
Mr. and Mrs. Ross Carroll of
Marshall. Mrs. Corda Thompson of
Clarksville, were Monday visitors
of Mr. and Mrs. Charley Whitten.
Mrs. Carroll and Mrs. Whitten also
visited,in Red River Haven Nurs-
ing Home.
Mrs. Fincher Rites
At Bogata Friday
Funeral services were held at
Cumberland Presbyterian Church
in Bogata, at 11 a. m. Friday for
Mrs. Minnie L. Fincher of Bogata,
who-died early Thursday after
long illness. Rev. James Barnes,
pastor of Bogata Baptist Church,
was the officiating minister. In-
terment. was made in Cuthand
Cemetery by Bogata Funeral
Home. Pallbearers were Eddie and
David Fincher, Wallace Cabell,
Loyd, Boyd and Austin Joyner.
An obituary was published in
last week’s News.
Among out of town relatives at-
tending the rites were Col. Chel-
sie Fincher, U. S. Army in Ger-
many, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Belsher
of Valliant, Okla., Floyd Belsher
of Mt. Pleasant, Mr. and Mrs. Jes-

PFC. LONNIE McMIKEL IN
BATTLE WITH VIET CONG
Army Pfc. Lonnie D. McMikcl,
19, son of Mr, and Mrs. C. E. Mc-
Mikel of Deport, was a member'of
a patrol Jan. 5 which was respon-
sible for thev death of two Viet
Cong and the capture of four near
Dau Tieng, Vietnam.
McMilcel was traveling with the
Armored Personnel Carriers of the
2nd Battalion of the 22nd Infan-
try, 4th Infantry Div., when seven
VC were spotted dashing for cover.
His platoon broken into two files
and took chase. In the short battle
which followed, two VC were shot
and killed, four prisoners were tak-
en and two weapons seized.
MeMikel, a gunner in Company
B, 2nd Battalion of the 4th Infan-
try Division’s 22nd Infantry, en-
tered the Army in December 1965
and was last stationed at Ft. Lew-
is, Wash. He was recently pro-
moted to Sp/4.
Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Ward of
Fort YVorth. were Sunday guests of
Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Hudson. They
also visited H. L, Chesshir in
Clarksville hospital.

Thursday nights game in the De-
port gym- High for Deport was
Frankye Crawford with 16, fol-
lowed by Bobbie Dowdy with 8.
High for Talco was Gage with 14
and Gandy 9.
Talco took the boys game with a
score of 34-17. High for Talco was
Moles with 12 and Norman 7. Jack-
ie Ballard was high for Deport
with 10 points.
