C. E. Nickell
Cephalious Edward Nickell was born Jan-
uary 16, 1865 in Monroe County, West Virginia.
Laura Steele Nickell was born February 28,
1873 in Craig County, Virginia.
They were united in marriage May 25, 1892
at the home of Mrs. P. A. Givens. They were
married by Reverend J. W. Canter and witnessed
by friends and relatives.
Mr. and Mrs. Nickell located in Greenbrier
County, West Virginia, where their two oldest
sons were born. Leslie McClung Nickell was born
March 2, 1893 and Neuman Feamster Nickell
on July 6, 1894.
Later they moved to Kenosha County, Wis-
consin where Mr. Nickell was in the dairy and
farming business. Their next four children were
born here. They were Edward Ewell Nickell,
April 7, 1897; Charles Luther Nickell, July 12,
1898; Laura Virginia Nickell, January 1, 1900
and Ralph Raymond Nickell, September 15, 1903.
From Wisconsin they moved to McHenry
County, Illinois where their daughter Kathleen
Olive Nickell was born June 6, 1905. Mr. Nickell
was in the same line of business.
In March of 1907, Mr. and Mrs. Nickell
and their seven children moved to Texas.
Farming, not being too good in Illinois with-
out the expense of fertilizing all the time and
being so costly, prompted their move. They had
heard and read about farming in Texas being

senger train. Mr. Nickell came through on a
freight train with the household goods and the
They settled on a farm five miles east of
what is now known as Claude, Texas.
Here on the farm, Mr. and Mrs. Nickell's
two youngest daughters were born. Helen Ethelyn
Nickell was born October 2, 1908 and Sarah
Lucile Nickell on November 23, 1912.
All of the Nickell children were married ex-
cept the youngest boy, Ralph. The oldest boy,
Leslie, was married to Mae Walkup on March
18, 1915. Neuman married Viola Hearn August
20, 1916. Ewell married Eva Harris on October
22,1924. Virginia married J. C. Daniel. Kathleen
married Roy Bailey February 17, 1927. Helen
married Porter Smith September 19, 1933.
Lucile married Bland Alexander on April 20,
Two sons preceded Mr. and Mrs.
Nickell in death. Charles Luther Nickell was
kicked and instantly killed by a horse May 6,
1913. Leslie McClung Nickell passed away
March 23, 1931.
Our father, C. E. Nickell, passed away Au-
gust 13, 1938. Eighteen years later our beloved
mother, Mrs. C. E. Nickell on June 17, 1956.
They loved Claude and Armstrong County,
in the Panhandle of Texas, as evidenced in their
love for their friends and neighbors, in deeds
