Gospel Meeting in
Closed Sunday Eve
(Continued from page ono.)
we do In a vital and fundamental sense
becomo new creature. Wo havo the
same souls we live in the samo flesh in
tho same world In the samo surroundings
but our souls are mado over re-born re-
created. The flesh is to be governed con-
trolled restrained by a new force. When
we becomo new creatures after baptism
we become sons and daughters of God
joint heirs of Christ. What a privilege
for an ordinary flesh and blood human
with all its mistakes and short comings.
Dut although it Is so wonderful it is true.
Every man who believes that Jesus Christ
is tho Son of Cod has power to become a
son of God. It Is a power given by God
no power in heaven or earth can take
it away if man wants to use it. If man
does not take advantage of It and uo the
opportunity given to him ho will not re-
ceive his reward. We have been sated
and redeemed by Christ's goodness.
"It is a wonderful privilege to be a
joint heir with Jesus Christ and that priv-
ilege is open to us if we will only take
advantago of it. Until Jesus died on the
cross no one had enjoyed this privilege.
The closest men could come to God was
to be his servants. It is through tho blood
of Christ that we become sons of God
and joint heirs of Christ
God loves his children every one of
them whether rich or poor great or small
weak or strong. He loves them villi ten-
derness. ''Greater love hath no man than this
that he lay down his life for his friend.'
While we were yet sinners Christ lay
down his life for us.
"Are ycu a child of God? God knows
all about your body soul and heart lie
Is interested in you. He knows every
child of his and all about each on?.
"What are wo going to do with these
lives of ours when we can enjoy this
privilege he gives? We cannot sctve wo
masters he has said. The question it
what are we as sons and daughters of God
going to do with our lives? What will
govern control restrain us? There must
bo a purpose before our lives will count.
What then shall control our purpose. Our
lives cannot be lived with two governing
purposes one or the other must be upper-
most. "The life of the child of God means
more than eating or drinking. It means
a life of service to Cod. While we go
out into the world to work we are to go
not as servants of our bodies appetites
and passions but as servants of a great
King Not as servants' of mammon but
servants of God. It is our duty and priv-
ilege to make our lives count for every-
thing we can. We are to remember every
day and hour that we are tons of God.
Sunday Evening.
Brother Sewell preached as to one who
had never heard the gospel of God and
salvation through Christ. He gave the
whole of God's plan of salvation. These
points briefly stated are that man must
first of all be taught the word of God.
llefore he can know Christ and His good-
ness lie must hear the word. Dut what
thall be taught him? Nothing but the
simplo gospel of Christ God's plan of cal-
vatlon. Then man must believe that Jesus
Is tho Christ the son of the living God
and a rewardei of them that diligently
seek after him. He must repent of his
sins fall out with sin and fall in love with
Jesus Christ. Then when man has made
the good confession he shall be baptized.
Last Thursday might be called "ear
day" for a largs majority of the girl
braved the early morning air with bare
ear's. There were little girls with big ears
and big girls with little ears. It made one
wonder where the poet got his inspiration
when he said something about "her dainty
shell-like auricles." Needless to say es
social hour drew near most of the girls
had their ears discreetly covered.

SENTENCE SERMONS
By Jesse P. Sewell.
"God hates sin as intensely as ho loves
a sinner."
"Wo cannot understand what it means
to be saved until wo have understood what
it means to be lost."
"Life on this earth is good for but ono
thing and that is to serve Jesus with."
"Does not all that characteristic of the
the true man or woman respond to the
appeal of the Word of God."
"One of the troubles with tho Church
of Christ today is that It has become so
anxious to have additions that it has com-
promised the trujh in order to obtain
them."
"The religion of the Lord Jesus Christ
is the most real tho most substantial the
most literal tiling in the world."
"There aro ns many men and women
on earth today who never had one thous-
and dollars worth of property to keep in
their lives who are selling their souls for
money as there are millionaires who are
selling their souls for money."
