Rainy

Extraordinary amounts of
rain early this week Mined
flooded sidewalk and extended
leakage problem in various
structures on and off the main
campus.
A total of 3.77 inches waa
recorded Monday and Tueeday
by the National Weather Bureau
at the Abilene Municipal
Airport.
Leakage was reported in
Qardnor Hall Sherrod
Residential Park and the
Administration Building but the
wont problem were reported In
McQIothlin Campu Center.
"What happened waa both
freakish and catastrophic"
Director of Maintenance Nell
Fry explained. "The flooding in
the campus center was directly
caused by a well which over
flowed. It also caused another
problem the preuuro buildup
broke a window."
Fry commented that they bad
been unable to ascertain the

Six women and six men have
been chosen to be the 1074-76
Hilltop Singers. The announce-
ment was mado Sunday follow-
ing two days of instrumental and
vocal auditions.
The individuals are selected
for their Instrumental ability
vocal quality and stage
appearance. Also musical
training and performing
experience are considered.
The new group includes Jane
Harwood of Camp Hill Penn;
Jan Helmmermann of Syracuse
N. Y.; Laura Uttle of Bakers-

The worst flooding was in the
Office of Student Relations
located in the basement.
Leaks have been found and
reported In at least five of the
new Sherrod Park apartments
and one has had problems with
water-filled air conditioning
heating ducts.
Complaints in reference to the
apartments are being handled by
Gene Linder associate dean of
students. Dean Linder stressed
that his offices deals with the
problems by directing them to
the proper channels. Once he has

contractor he has no way of
knowing whether or not the
work Is completed.

director of the Hilltoppers. He Is
a member of the music faculty
and also conducts one of the
stage bands and the orchestra.
Hollifield is excited about the
musical talent and variety of
backgrounds that the new Hill-

Tho new Hilltoppers' first
performance this fall will be
nightly shows during the home-
coming weekend. During the
semester they have three out of
town concerts at Purple and
White parties in Midland Austin
and Lubbock.
The tryouU for the Hilltop-
pers were judged by the 1073-74
group and Mr. Hollifield. It was
mentioned that several other
groups like the Hilltoppers could
have been formed from the 87
students that auditioned.
Time for Who's Who
Garvin Beauchamp vice
president for student personnel
services has extended an invita-
tion to students to submit their
own nomination to "Who's Who
in American Colleges and
Universities."
ACC will officially nominate
33 students for the honor.
Students may be nominated
by turning in their names to Mrs.
Winnie Cagle in the dean's
office Beauchamp said. Names
can also be submitted at tho
Freshmen feature Gafsby look
as Homecoming revue theme

The 1920's and a history of
ACC are the freshman class
Homecoming themes this year
according to Herb Butrum
assistant in development.
The Freshman Revue show-
casing freshman talent will
feature the "Great GaUby'Mook
of the 1920's In costumes
decorations and refreshments.
Ten shows hourly from 6:30
10:30 on Friday and Saturday
nights will be held in the Main
Room.
Besides freshman talent
Butrum said four shows would
feature the new Hilltop Singers
and two shows probably would
have other campus talent.
Freshmen in charge of the
program include Cheryl
Nicholson tickets; David
Laurence advertising; Melinda
to hill '
Information desk in the Campus
Center. Deadline for all nomina-
tions Is Wednesday at 6 pjn.
Beauchamp said that the
nominees to be selected by the
Student Life Committee will be
judged on the basis of character
leadership honesty dependabili-
ty attitude and future promise.
A 2.26 grade point average is
also recommended but Is by no
means the ultimate criteria.
Thoso nominated must be
junior or seniors.

Freshmen may sign up for the
Oct. 1 talent tryouta In the
Alumni Activities Office.
Presentations should be a
maximum of seven minutes long.
"The Revue Is designed to
Involve as many freshmen and as
many different kinds of talent as
possible" said Butrum.
The freshman project is a
metal dome designed with
triangles each one with pictures
on the inside and outside
depicting the history of the
development of ACC.
Bob Bailey and Jamee
Hancock are project chairmen.
"It will be the first project in
the midway; a sort of welcome
back project" said Butrum.
