Bromley talks to HPU students about sexual abuse
by Tamatha Faircloth
If you were among the Howard
Payne students at the Nov. 7 cha-
pel service you were among those
given the opportunity to hear
Nicole Braddock Bromley speak
on an issue that may have been
heavy for our university. But it's
an issue that deserves a voice.
Sexual abuse is a horrific real-
ity to many children and teens all
over the world and unfortunately
it's a reality to many on our cam-
pus. Bromley a normal teenager
being raised by a mother and step-
father in a small town of Ohio
lived a seemingly normal life. As
many of you heard her testimony
offered insight to the tragic story
of a "normal" life turned upside-
down by sexual abuse. Bromley
now offers insight and awareness
of breaking the silence.
Bromley graduated from high
school knowing that God planted
in her heart at the ripe age of 15
to spend her life telling her story.
She didn't exactly know how
then but after studying psychol-
ogy at Marietta College her call-
ing is evident in the many places
she has spoken and the goals she
has for her ministry.
Bromley this year has traveled
to middle schools high schools
camps conferences juvenile cen-
ters and universities in the United
States and Canadar. She hopes to
one day speak at larger universi-
ties and more conferences. One
thing Bromley is sur.e of how
ever in regards to where her min-
istry will go is that" when you
are obedient to the call the Lord
places on your life He will open
more doors for it to be accom-
plished." When asked about Bromley's
chapel service many HPU stu-
dents shared the same response:
It was hard to relate to. Many stu-
dents commented on the bravery
and respect they had for her to be
able to tell a story so painful.
Is this issue hard to relate to? Is
this issue nonexistent on college
When asked about this issue's
relevance to college-age audienc-
es Bromley said "People come
