Take 7-0 Score From Canyon Teachers In Ragged Game
Contest' Marred By
Listlessness
Fumbles
In a slow game featured by fumb-
les bad passes and ragged playing
In' general the Simmons Cowboys de-
feated the Canyon Buffaloes on Par-
ratnore Field Saturday by a score of
7. to 0 The Cowboys clearly out-
classed the visitors but they didn't
seem to bo nblo to get together long
' enough to put the ball over for a
counter except in the first quarter.
The weather can bo blamed partly
for. the looso play for it would cer-
tainly not be classed a's ideal for
playing football.
' In tho first quarter Simmons got
the ball on her own 45-yard line and
started a drive that carried the ball
over tho enemy's goal line. Sanders
started things going by going around
left end for a first down. After
N Walter had lost 2 yafils and Walker
had gained It back a pass Walter to
Davenport netted another fjjai ttown.
On a lino play Davenport crashed
through for 25 yards and pigged the
ball on the 6 yard line. Two more
thrusts at tho lino by Davenport put
tho ball over for a touchdown. Wal-
ter drop-kicked for the extra point
THis ended tho scoring for the day
and although the Cowboys threatened
In the last quarter tho game ended
with the ball on Bison's 8 yard line
in tho Cowboys possession.
Tho anticipated aerial attack was a
sad failure on the part of both teams.
Each team was rated as being ex-
ceptionally strong on passes but for
' some reason tho passing came proved
to be a complete washout for out of
23 attempts on tho part of tho Buf
faloes 17 were incomplete 3 wero
intercepted and only 3 were com
pleted for a total of 22 yards white
tho Cowhands could only co'mplete 2
for a total of 13 yards with 1 In-
complete and 1 intercepted in 10
trials.
H. Bounds was tho ; outstanding
player of tho afternoon. He played
with his usual consistency at end
whilo Hi Daniel at guard broko
through the lino several times to
stop tho opposition for a loss. Dav-
enport and Sanders Cowboy half
backs occasionally got away for nice
- gains while Pro vera substituting for
'.Walter at quarter got away for a
dash that put tho ball on tho 8 yard
lino Just as the cannon of the time-
keeper isignlf led that play was ended.

Kangaroos Are Slated As Next Foes
Of Simmonsites At Sherman Friday;
Austin Boasting Great Passing Club
The third Texas Conference game
of the season for the Cowboys will
find them at Sherman jicxt Friday
afternoon battling the Austin Col-
lege Kangaroos in a game where a de-
feat will practicality eliminate the
losing eleven from pennant chances.
Since the Cowboys have tied two
games they are credited with a win
and a loss each tie game counting
a half victory and A half defeat. An-
other loss will leave the Rangemcn
practically out of the running. Austin
College has lost one so a loss will also
put them in tho ranks of tho also ran.
Tho big surprise of last week-end
was the 23-0 defeat handed the Kanga
roos by Howard Payne. The Austin
Collcgo crew had played a great game
against T. C. U. the week before los-
ing only 20-13 and were picked to
beat the Amis eleven by a good ma
jority. Something went wrong w.ih
their passing attack howevor and the
Jackets had n big time wading
through them. It is a cinch that the
Kangaroos will be loaded for bear
next Friday as T result of this de-
cisive defeat and "will be out to ralso
their conference standing.
The Cawthorn men depend largely
on the great passing attack from Jew
Keeling to Lingo. In the T. Cf. U.
game these men ran the Frog backs
till their tongues hung out trying to
break up the posses but sti'l the
Kantraroos completed them. Their
aerial game is considered second ont?
to S. M. U. and Cranfill will have
his men working hard next week pre-
paring a defense for it Several of
the Cowboy backs are weak at this
game and it' is probablo that Lynch
McCollum Sanders and Hyde and
Walters will see most of the action for
the day. Incidentally these men are
no Blouches at passes themselves and
will doubtless threaten tho Kangaroos
goal line by this method.
A victory in this game will place
the Cowhands in a position calculated
to give considerable worry to other
conference teams and if St Edwards
is only beaten or tied again will give
them a dandy chance at the title uar
ring injuries in tho Hill Billy game
Coaches Cranfill and Anderson will
have their full strength available for
the contest and at least give the
Austin College crew a mighty battle.

Last week-end found a new loader
in tho Texas Conference when tho
St Edwards Saints won over the
Southwestern Pirates and went to
the head of the six members of the
organization with a standing of .750.
Tho Saints uncovered a running and
plunging y attack that completely
overcame iho Pirates passing game
and todk the contest in easy fashion.
One of the Saints scores came when
the Georgetown eleven tried passing
inside their own ten yard lino and.
it was Intercepted.
Tho other conferonco gamo of the
week resulted in a victory for
Howard Payne over the Austin Col-
lege Kangaroos. The Sherman ag-
gregation had been doped to win as a
result of their great struggle against
the Horned Frogs tho week before
but the Amis men wore never in
danger of losing the contest and took
the Cawthon men under 23-0. As a
result of this game tho Yellow
Jackets arc tied with tho Cowboys
in standing and the Austin College
crew is at the bottom of the list
Trinity is the only member of the
organization that has not yet met
another team in the conference but
ihey do this week when they play
Austin. Austin should win this
game but if the Tigers catch them
in the shape they were in when they
played the Jackets it will be too bad
for tho Kangaroo chances.
The conference schedule for this
week:
Friday: .Simmons vs. Daniel Baker
at Brownwood- Trinity vs. Austn
Collcgo at Sherman.
Saturday: Southwestern vs. Rico
at Houston. Stfl Edwards vs. Loyola
at New Orleans.

It won't be long before anyone will
bo afraid to try to predict any gamo
the Horned Frogs of T. C. U play
in if they go on upsetting the dope
each week end as they have been do-
ing the last few weeks. Daniel
Baker was scheduled to beat them
but were taken in 27;0. Texas State
was dub to annihilate them but .got
away with only a tie and now A &
M. went to Fort Worth to run over
them and also got a tie. The Frogs
havo all kinds of fighting spirit and
any team that faces them will know
thoro has been a battlo when the
game is over.

According to a Brownwood
report "Big Bill" Wright cen-
ter on the Yellow Jacket aggre-
gation has declared war on
Swede PlttmaYi pivot man for the '
Cowboys and intends to wrest
his all-conference . position from
him this season. Jt wouldn't
surprise any of the local fans if
Mr. Wright wouldn't like io Bign
an armistice before the Thanks-
giving game is over for no one
better declare war on Pitt unless
he is ready for sharp action.
Pittman was the best center in
the Texas Conference last season
and is the best that has been seen
on the local field this year. In
the only game away from home
thus far his opponent was round-
ly outpls'yed. Swede always plays
his best game on Turkey Day
and fans will have an opportunity
to see the All-conference pivot
man defend his position against
an ambitious challenger.
These Cowboys sure do recuperate
in a 'hurry. Harry Cohn and Shine
Bounds wero both on crutches two
days before tho game with Canyon
but both got in the game and hustled
around like two-year-olds.
If Harold Walker only has a good
pair of ankles from now until Thanks-
giving' It would mean a great deal
to Cowboy chances. Only a bit of
sharp action will cause them to pain
him and slow him up. It is a mys-
tery1 how "Three Yard" can get up
the steam and power with which he
plunges the line that he does with
his ankles paining him as they do.
However he i one of the most con-
sistent men at the line to be found
on any team in Texas.

Everybody got a big surprise
out of the 23.0 defeat that the
Yellow Jacket handed the Aus-
tin College Kangaroos. The Caw-
thon team played a great game
against the Homed Frogs the
week before and dope had picked
them to walk over the Amis crew
If the Cowhands can get past the
Kangaroos as easily' ad the
'Brownwood crew did they will
have a dandy" chance at the con-
ference title providing St Ed-
wards suffers another loss or tie.
It was stated last week that the
Saints' did not have enough
games to warrant them the title
but they do only four confer-
ence games being required this
year.
a
Daniel Baker got a big surprise
lost week-end when"the Sam Houston
Normal boys handed them a 14-0 de-
feat The Hill Billies were making
a fight for the T. I. A. A. title and
still havo a chance but their loss left
only A. C. O- and McMurry in thej
undefeated class. McMurry has the
best team in her history and all
local fans are glad to seo the Indians
get some revenge -for their lean
years.
00
Some Canyon man was hurt in
a play last week and some fan in
the Simmons section yelled out
"What's the matter. Are you
yellow?" Another time the yell
leaders had to stop the noise
when the Buffaloes suffered a
penalty. -This is a very un-
sportsmanlike behaviour' and re-
flects discredit on the institution.
Don't let it happen again.
