Cowpoke Mentor
Optimistic Person
Warreh B. Woodson Hardin-
Simmons University head coach
by nature is an optimistic person.
Letterman tackle Beau Cham-
nnrmp. whn hnd fieured larffelv in
the Cowboy football program this
fall will not return to school. A
"second letterman Bob Blair full-
back and leading ground gainer
last season graduated this sum-
mer. Both are married men.
"Ritrht other lettermen and four
non-lettermen who had more
eligibility will be wearing uni-
forms of the armed services this
fall instead of moleskins. John
(Model T) Ford three times All-
Border Conference quarterback
passing star is gone along with
eight other 1950 graduates.
In addition only six of the 25
1950 freshmen numeral winners
are returning. So Woodson who
is starting his eighth year as head
foreman on the Forty Acres
where Bulldog Turner and Ed
Sprinkle of the Chicago Bears
first won their fame doesn't
have much to be optimistic about.
Eieht lettermen will Drobablv be
in the starting offensive lineup
when the Pokes meet the potent
Tigers but other squadmen will
be depended upon on the defen-
sive eleven.
But Woodson is by no means
possimistic. For he still has in
Frank (Dunny) Goode one of
the best scoring threats in the
business. Goode running as wing-
back in 1949 caught 11 touch-
down passes to share al-time Bor-
der Conference honors.
At fullback three lettermen
are available in Mitchel Malouf
a junior and Bill Davis and Chic
Tiger seniors.

Sa JUey Say ...
Question of the week: What do you think of the change in chapel
periods?
Ann Thomas: I like it because I don't have to get up so early.
Beverly Mayes: I don't like it because girls who live in Smith
Hall and have 12:30 classes won't have time to eat.
James Rosson: I wouldn't turn around twice for the difference.
Evelyn Carey: I like it because we can go from chapel to the
dining hall without having to wait around.
Wanda Burdock: I think it was better at 10 a. m. because that
way it kept you from having so many classes in a row.
James Cox: I suppose it's all right.
Mary Nell Bowen: I don't like it because it leaves less time for
going home on week ends.
Marilyn Walker: It is bad for those who don't have classes and
have to wait around for chapel.
Elnita Faubion: The 10 a. m. chapel period seemed to be a tra-
dition to me.
