Avery In 1941 to join the Army,
and worked In Red River Ord-
nance and Lone Star Ordnance
until 1937.
FULBKJGHT WHO CLUB
Fulbrlght WHO Club met on
Sept. 23 at the community cen-
ter, with Mr*. Luther RoaeU
and Mrs. Lela Rotell as host-
esses. The meeting was open-
ed by Mrs. Travis King, presi-
dent.
Mrs. Worth Baker led the
song service and the club pray-
er was repeated, (toll call was
answered with “my favorite
recreation,” with 42 being the
favorite. Committees gave re-
ports. Ways to earn money for
the club were discussed. Each
member gave 30 cents for lawn
mowing.
Other business Included elec-
tion of officers, all who have
served In 1965-66 being retain-
ed, Committees will be ap-
pointed later.
Mrs. Hurley Stevens had
charge of the program on “Mon-
ey Management and Good Health
Habits.” Several members took
part.-'
Cookies and punch were
served to 11 members and one
guest, Miss Selma Baker of Bo-
gata.
estlng lesson titled, “Potpour-
ri," which consisted of the fol-
lowing topics: "Covered Brid-
ges,” by Mrs. Johnson;
“Weather Vanes” by Mrs. W.
L. Rice; “Historical Mllla” by
Mrs. C D. Swayze, and “The
Doll House of Windsor Castls"
by Mrs. F. Marlon Morehead.
These topics pertained to hi#-
torlcal relics which were of In-
terest to each member present.
The hostess assisted by Mrs.
Swayzs served a delicious des-
sert plate to the following mem-
bers: Mesdames W S. Bar-
ber, W. J. Crawford, Johnson,
Morehead, Rice and Agnes
Scaff.

SHAKESPEARE CLUB
The Shakespeare Club held
Its Initial meeting of the year
Friday afternoon at the home of
MUs Lucy Moore. The meet-
ing was called to order by the
presl lent and reports were
male by the various standing
committees.
In the absence of the leader,
Mrs.’ D, W Patching, the les-
son was led by Mrs. J. Paul
Johnson. It was a most lnter-

for New Learning andGrowth.”
During the business meeting
It was decided to have a short
order supper at the Hallowe’en
Carnival, rather than the usual
chicken-dressing supper. Ham-
burgers, chill, hot dogs, pie and
drinks will be served. The
date was set for Thursday night,
October 27.
Attendance award went to
Mrs. Gist’s room.
Mrs. Jerry Bray, Mrs. Es-
sie Emery and Mrs. Muriel
Gist served refreshments.

Fire Department, he trans-
ferred to the Police Depart-
ment. In 1963 he was promot-
ed to Sergeant.
Mrs. McPeak Is the former
Elizabeth Hardeman, daughter
of Bob Hardeman of Avery.
They have two children, Gale,
18, who Is a student at Howard
County Junior College at Big
Spring, Tex., and a son, Joe A ,
a Junior at Lamesa High School.
They reside at 308 North 12th,
In Lamesa.

McKenzie Memorial Methodist

Marable at 9;30 September 20.
Meeting was called to order
by the chairman with a pjayer.
Minutes were read and ap-
proved. Reports were given by
different committees.
Mrs. A. B. Butts was In
charge of the program, “The
Missionary In an Uprooted So-
ciety.” She was assisted by
Mrs. W. N. Mullins. Scripture
was given by Mrs. J. M Mc-
Mahan. Closing prayer was by
Mrs. Butts.
Next meeting will be with
Miss Ethel Stanley and Miss
Vera Rogers Oct. 18 at 3 p.m.

Westfall. Jan spoke on “Stew-

Washington, where Pvt. Johnson
will be stationed. He was pre-
viously stationed at Ft. Polk,

Mrs. G. L. Griggs ofbagwell
has received word of the death
of Rev. J. D. Carter. He passed
away at Harrison, Ark. He was
a former pastor of Bagwell and
Fulbrlght Baptist Churches.

atives and friends In Clarks-
ville. Thby visited In Paris
