IT'S A DEEP DARK SECRET!
Open Mange
By Noll Scwcll
Well hero I am flat of my back.
with the flu tugging at my lungs and
tho doctors tugging at my pocket-
book. It Is a question whether to Ulo
and let some others fret with the bills
or to live and dodgo 'cm yourself.
SOCIETY
l!y Nina Landers.
I am sure that at least ninety per
cent of you know that Fielder's has
moved but for those who thought tho
weather too chilly last Saturday and
Sunday I would like to Inform them
that tho dormitory girls life saver Is
now on north side in a far more
convenient location.
And we have among us a radio star
'tho Melancholy Soph" from Smith
Hall. Goodie.
All thoso that missed the roping
missed tho' treat of a llfo time. Al-
though the time was mighty slow
there were oodles of thrills. And the
band played a few selections.
A recent survey was made in T. C. U. as to just exactly how much time
tho average student spends each day in reading magazines newspapers
books etc. and the committee reached the conclusion that about 47 minutes
a day was spent by each boy and cirl in readme everything in general but
this did not help tho poor professors in determining just how much time
each student had s&cnt on his lesson in particular.
Suppose some devise were perfected by which the time spent by a stu
dent in holding the textbook and supposedly consuming the contents could
be ascertained and reported to the instructor. Mucli more time would be
wasted than formerly by students merely holding books and staring into
space for their minds as ever would be on something more enticing than
an average book of references. It just isn't possible for everybody to be
interested in everything and we prefer to spend our time on things we are
interested in.
But why should our grades be determined by the amount of time we
spend on a subject anyway for some of us can learn more in less while
others can learn less in more time ; and if we arc naturally bright it offends
our dignity to be told wc don't spend enough time on a subject while if we
ore rattier poor in mental ability we probably know it and can't help it
and the time spent in trying to help it is all to no avail.
Anyway the amount of time each one of us spends in devouring read-
ing or scanning the average textbook is a matter of our own personal
knowledge and will always be a deep dark secret to our professors.
o
ARE YOU DREAMING?
I can't tell whether It Is a step
In advancement or lack of spirit but
anyway there was no argument at nil
over whether the junior-senior ban-
quet would bo formal or no. Plenty
of oratory was lost.
And now comes the weekly love
story.
The greatest of men arc dreamers. Not the possessors of idle illusions
or mysterious intcruptions of slumber but possessors of vision that often
seems so unreal that their fcllowmen term it "merely a dream."
America was discovered the Panama Canal built aviation perfected
as well as many other notable achievements because of some ones vision
that seemed so unreal that it too was termed "merely a dream."
College campuses are not excepted each has its "dreamer." Usually
an insignificant person in the opinion of the average collegian "the
dreamer is a poor mixer ana enjoys only limited acquaintances. Col-
lege life to him offers few pleasures yet his associates who today scarcely
care as to his existence are destined to honor him tomorrow.
The man with vision in time becomes the champion of his vocation.
If Proxy's prisoner friend did hop-
pen to run away would It be n good
joke well I ask you?
I wouldn't mind being a student
rent car proprietor but for such driv-
ers as McCollum and McKay.
Polk - Guitar Surprise
Wedding On Saturday
Coming as a surprise to a number
of friends who had been invited to a
luncheon in the John Guitar home
Saturday was the wedding of Kelly
Polk to Miss Mary Guitar.
The first intimation of a wedding
came when Mrs. Gcorgo W. Cresswcll
changed the music for the occasion
into Lohengrin's Wedding Mnrch.
Closed doors were then opened to re-
veal a setting for the wedding.
Tho lines were read by tho Rev.
Willis P. Gerhart rector of tho
Episcopal church.
Immediately following tho ceremony
tho couple left for n wedding trip to
n destination they refused to dis-
close. They will return In n few
weeks to make their home here where
Mr. Polk is associated with tho Abi-
lene Mortgage Co.
Mrs. Polk Is tho daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. John D. Guitar of this city.
For the past few years howveer she
has been away In school nnd nbroad.
Mr. Kelly Is tho grandson of
J. N. Ferguson of this city. He was
graduated from Simmons in 1024. His
mother Mrs. Dora Kelly of Artcsln
N. M. was tho first student to ever
enroll in Simmons.

And I know a man who stopped
to pet a dog and the hound nearly
tore his pants off during the follow-
ing two block run.
I have always heard that college
men were bold but never before Inst
Wednesday morning did I ever hear
of a group of them cnlltng up the
president nnd nsking him to come
down to tho drug store for chapel.
Any way it showed that they knew
that Simmons had chapel every morning.

We're only at old at we feel. Those
who stay young know how to
keep up their health and spirit
with a wiie uie of short reit
period through the work or play
of the day.
No matter how hard you've got to
work you can tave time by snatch-
ing a minute now and then. Long
enough for a big rest if you treat
yourself to a bottle of Coca-CoU.
Ice-cold sparkling delicious it
will fill that minute with a pure
pleasure and wholesome refresh-
ment. Get you off to a freih start.

Whining is just ns Rlssy for girls
ns it is for boys. A girl can be sissy
just the same a boys and that is tho
difference n now nnd the so-called

There nrc even some students in
college . . . yen even in Simmons

some people would feed to criminals
. . . so full of "putrefaction etc."
that they cannot take some very es-
sential courses without feeling that
they are being nnughty. I'll be It Is
a pain in the neck to be such a "nice"

Girls be nice to the cnnlne species

ful for ducks.
That Famous Continued Story
(Chapter 13)
As a special treat this week wo will
make it short with the following an-
nouncement. "Do not fear 'The
Famous Continued Story' will bo run
ns usual. It was threatened by the
editor but a petition bearing twelve
thousand names changed his mind.
And ho monkey screamed "So it is
you eh?" nnd the great terror of the
sea hopped to a higher limb nnd
blowing his noso squalled "Who

It might become some of you big

with tho other members of the stu-
dent body. Thero is talk of other
courts being built and then there will
bo room enough for you nnd nt tho
same time tho ladies may bo able to
get on for a game.
One long distance phono call caused
our "Galloping Water Boy" a sleep-
less night only to bo relieved tho
next morning to find that he had the
wrong idea of things.
Was just a few FAIR directors that
was present at the concert that was
given at the auditorium last week.
And ono thing that was noticeable
was the alertness of the director in
picking up tho "Fair feign" that ha1
so liberally gave to OUR OWN.
