Old Glory News

JR-SR BANQUET HELD
Easter, with its bright spring
flowers, Easter bunnies and
gayly colored Easter eggs, was
the theme carried out at the
Old Glory School annual junior-
senior banquet held at Frazier’s
Cafe in Aspermont last Satur-
day night.
Speaker for the event was
Bernard Buie of Stamford. Mr.
Buie, who studies the history
of this area as a hobby, told
the group some very interesting
facts about the history of Stone-
wall County.
Thirty-five students, teach-
ers and friends attended the
banquet.
VARIETY CLUB
The Old Glory Variety Club
met for a special all-day quilt-
ing in the home of Mrs. Charlie
Letz on Tuesday of last week.
The ladies enjoyed a delicious
salad luncheon at noon. The
quilt was made for Mrs. A. R.
Sawyers. Those present were
Mmes. Katie Gerloff, G. F.
Spitzer, W. G. Wienke, Bill
Tipton, Lynn Flowers, Beno
Herttenberger and the hostess.

trustee election day. On the tic-
ket for the Old Glory School
Board are Glen Pierce and Jim-
my Cox. Two will be elected.
On the county board, G. F.

Prec. 1, Louis Spitzer in Com-
missioner’s Prec. 2. None of
these places are contested.
ENTERTAINS
Mrs. Charlie Letz entertain-
ed a group of Aspermont ladies
at the Wednesday afternoon
Bridge Club last week.
VISITORS
Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Snider of
Lubbock have been here visit-
ing with the A. R. Sawyers fam-
ily. Saturday Mrs. Sawyers went
back to Lubbock with them to
catch a bus to Vernel, Utah,
where she will visit with her
daughter and family, the Tim
Jennings.
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Spitz-
er and sons of Weatherford
were here last week visiting
their parents, Mr. and Mrs. G.
F. Spitzer and Mr. and Mrs. J.
E. Flow.
Visiting in the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Herbert Klump last
Sunday were two of their daugh-
ters and their families, Mr.
and Mrs. Allen Letz and sons,
and Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Tabb
and children of Odessa, also a
niece, Mrs. Loudell Davis of
Abilene.
Mrs. C. M. Lewis of Coman-
che is here visiting in the home
of her daughter and husband,
Mr. and Mrs. Herman Dugan.
ILLNESS
School was dismissed here
for two days last week due to
illness among the students. Sev-
eral folks from here have been
in the hospital.
Mrs. Morris Garner is a pa-
tient in the Haskell hospital.
A former resident of this
community, Clement Duden-
sing, has been moved from the
Wichita Falls hospital where he
was a patient for several weeks,
to the Haskell hospital.
Mrs. E. H. Diers is recover-
ing in the Stamford Hospital af-
ter undergoing surgery there.

KAREN LEE
Karen Jeanette Lee was born
on August 15, 1951, at Haskell.
Karen is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Donald Lee. Her fa-
ther is a carpenter, and her
mother works at Clear View
Nursing Home in Haskell. Karen
has lived in Rule all her life.
Karen has played basketball,
particpated in pep squad, is on
the annual staff, FHA, and Var-
sity Club. Karen was cheer-
leader this year, and she was
an officer in FHA. During her
junior year, Karen was annual
queen candidate. This year she
won the honor of being elected
‘‘Most Friendly Girl” in Rule
High School, and. was also a
homecoming queen candidate.
Karen is a member of the First
Baptist Church.
She plans to attend beauty
school after graduation. Kar-
en’s main interest is helping
others.

Course Nears Completion
BARRY HOBBS
Barry Russell Hobbs was
born in Big Spring Memorial
Hospital in Big Spring, Texas
on August 12, 1951. He is the
son of Mr. and Mrs. Weldon
Russell Hobbs.
When Barry was two years
old, he moved to Stamford,
where he started to school and
went for two years, then he mov-
ed to Rule and attended the rest
of his school days at Rule
School.
His father’s occupation is oil
well servicing, and his mother
is a housewife. Barry’s favorite
hobbies are hunting, fishing,
and raising cattle.
When Barry was a Junior at
Rule School he was selected as
the Lions Club Exchange Stu-
dent and went on probably one
of the most exciting trips in his
life, a tour of Europe. Barry is
a member of the Rule 4-H and
was the Vice-President of the
Haskell 4—H. Barry has also
lettered in football and track
2-4. Barry is now our Senior
class president.
After graduation Barry plans
to attend SMU where he will ma-
jor in Law.

RULE — The six-week basic
sewing class for adult women
is nearing completion, and it
has been a pleasant experience
for several ladies of the com-
munity.
The ladies met each Thurs-
day afternoon at 4:00 o’clock
in the Rule School Homemak-
ing Department for the 2 hours
of instruction under the direc-
tion of Homemaking teacher,
Mrs. Lou Olson.
Assistants were members of
the Dorcas Class of First Bap-
tist Church; Mrs. Joy Jones,
Mrs. Nelle Estes, Mrs. Allene
Wilson, Mrs. Margie Fannin,
Mrs. Venice Elmore, and Mrs.
Tomi May.
In the beginning, 16 women
registered, but illness and other
conflicts prevented several
from continuing the course*
it is hoped that another corn’s
may be offered in the futurej
The ladies were taught how to
read pattern instructions, hov
to lay out and cut out the pat -
terns on the cloth, and how t >
assemble simple garments.
Zipper insertion and buttonhols
making were included for var -
ious garments, and, of cours<,
everyone got some experience
in ripping out stitches.
The six women who attended
3 or more times are: Mmes.
Willie Mae Tennon, Mae Helen
Dessivia, Lela Mae Foster,
Jewell M. Louis, Johnnie Sue
Lockhart, and Clemmie Louis.
VISITS IN RULE
Josephine Tarbet of Clear
View Lodge, Haskell, spent
Wednesday and Thursday visit-
ing friends in Rule. She was
guest in the homes of Mr. and
Mrs. Walter Crofford, Mrs.
Dave Hunt, Miss Velda Carter,
and Mr. and Mrs. Herman Gray.
She also enjoyed attending night
services at the Church of Christ
where her great-nephew, Don
Tarbet of Paducah, was guest
speaker.
She extends an invitation to
her friends to visit her in the
home at any time.
Mr. and Mrs. Bert Cornelius
of Duncan, Okla. visited a few
days last week with his son and
family, Mr. and Mrs. J. N.
Cornelius.
Susan May of McMurry visit-
ed over the weekend with her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. D.
May.
Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Barbee
of Stephenville spent Saturday
night and Sunday with his par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. James R.
Barbee and family.

Her plans after graduation

returned home last Tuesday af-
ter spending a few days with
their daughter and son-in-law,
Mr. and Mrs. Sam Pendleton
in Glendale, Arizona. While
there they all visited the Roose-
velt Dam and Superstition
Mountain. On their way home
Mr. and Mrs. Smith came by
Tombstone, Arizona.

Dalton Fisher and daughters of
Anton and Mr. Alva Davis of

“Bunnies a poppin’ ” was the
theme for a style show Friday
morning, March 28, in the
Rochester High School Auditor-
ium. The bunnies? -young chil-
dren of relatives and friends
of the Homemaking III class.
As a clothing project for the
spring term, each student
choose a child to sew for. The
finished projects ranged from
pajamas, to play suits to dress-
up dresses. Each child model-
ed the outfit made for them.
The audience included par-
ents, relatives and friends of
the Homemaking III girls. After
the fashion show, punch and
cookies were served in the din-
ing room of the homemaking de-
partment.
Shelia, the five-year-old
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. H.
Wright of Midland, was Wanda
Strickland’s child’s clothing
project. The other class mem-
bers and their clothing projects
included:
Kay Davidson, Lisa the four-
year-old daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Clinton Tanner of Roches-
ter; Karen Sanderson, Steven,
the three-year-old son of Mr.
and Mrs. Horance Hatfield of
Rochester; Bertha Barrios,
Linda, the three-year-old
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Law-
rence Martinez, of Fort Worth;
Nancy Rose, Douglass the two-
year-old son of Mr. and Mrs.
Derryl Strickland, of Dallas;
Jeanie Haney, Cyd, the one-
year-old daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. McClelland of Dallas;
Martha Nell Chambers, Kim the
four-year-old daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Don Alderman of
Rochester; Ann Hicks, Shaw-
nie, the three-year-old daugh-
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Eddie
Reeves of Rochester.
Ann Hicks was in charge of
the script; Kay Davidson and
Karen Sanderson, scenery;
Martha Nell Chambers, ward-
robe; Bertha Barrios, hostess;
Wanda Strickland, Nancy Rose,
and Jeanie Haney were the nar-
rators. The preview of chil-
drens’ spring fashions was en-
joyed by all.
