Annual
Committee To Choose
Publication Heads
A meeting of the Publications
committee will be held soon to
choose next year's BRAND edi-
tor BRONCO editor and Publi
cations business manager accord-
ing to Miss Eva Rudd pommittee
chairman.
Those interested should make
application to Miss Rudd or to Mr.
H. L. Bagley publications faculty
sponsor. Two major changes of
policy vhave been made Miss
Rudd reported. This year the pay
has been $45 per month or ap-
proximately $180 per semester.
Next year all three students
holding the positions will be given
a full tuition scholarship. On a
15 hour basis this would also total
$180.
The other change is that the
position formerly known as busi-
ness manager of the BRAND will
be known as Publications Busi-
ness manager. This person will
have the added duty of taking
care of financial matters for the
BRONCO as well as the BRAND.
Miss Rudd urges' that those in-
terested talk to her or Mr. Bag-
ley' as soon as possible.

Hays Elected District
Circle K Lt. Gov.
Last weekend at the District
Circle K Convention in Ada
Oklahoma Ferrell Hays was elect-1
ed Lt. Governor of the Texas-
Oklahoma District of Circle K In-
ternational. He suceeds Bob
Washau of MpMurry College.
Some of the duties of Hays as
Lt. Governor are to "take care of
all correspondence between the t
Governor and the clubs of the
division". Also he is on the
Board of Trustees of the Texas-
Oklahoma District. The Board of1
Trustees is the body that inter-
prets the district constitution.
Plans are being made to attend
the International Circle K con-
vention at Philadelphia Pennsyl-
vania which is to be held Septem-
ber 4th 5th and 6th.
Also in attendance at the Con-
vention was Alvin Kuykendall
former Circle K President.
High School Senior Day
Set For Next Saturday
April 28th has been designated
as "High School Senior Day" at
Hardin-Simmons. This event is
set aside annually for the pur-
pose of acquainting graduating
seniors from the surrounding
high schools with the happenings
on the "Forty Acres".
This year Dr. W. O. Beazley is
serving as General Chairman of
the "Senior Dayy" preparations.
Other faculty and staff members
working with Dr. Beazley as
committee heads are as follows:

Art Department
Gets New Easels
A welcome addition to the Uni-
versity Art Department was the
arrival of eighteen new easels
Monday morning. Gratefully ap-
preciated by all art students the
sturdy easels replace the thin
wobbly ones formerly used by
the art department.
Designed by art department
chairman Dr. J B. Smith the
easels were built by the Univer-
sity maintenance department and
painted with a servicable Plex-
tone enamel.

Surprise "Bronco" Day
Held Here Wednesday
Bronco Day held Wednesday
was the big event of the week at
H-SU. In connection with Found-
ers Day the BRONCO was pre-
sented to the students and the
I festivities for the day began at
Bailey Barbeque; 1T. L. Bagley
Publicity; Dr. J. B .Smith Decora-
tions; Major L. J. Schelter Traf-
fic and Parking.
In anticipation of the large
number of seniors expected for
this day Dean Jack Dean of the
Music School has spent much
time organizing the program.
Portions of the program will
draw on various musical organ-
izations from the campus such

Final Production "The
Grass Harp" Set Tonight
Tonight will be the 'final pre-
sentation of "The Grass Harp" by
the Hardin-Simmons University
Players Club. The production has
been given three times previously
this week the ICth 17th and 19th.
It is the major spring produc-
tion and is produced in a most
unusual fashion. The play is be-
ing done "in the round" with
the audience on three sides. Al-
though this type of presentation
lc now nnrl differont for Hardin-
Simmons it fs rapidly becoming
popular in the theater world and
judging from the crowds and

noon. The day's activities came as
a surprise to the student body.
The dedication of the BRONCO
was presented at the close of the
dedication of Behrens Hall as
was appropriate since the
BRONCO was in Memoriam of
Mrs. W. J. Behrens.
Yearbooks were presented by
the editor Vangie Reiff; to Mr.
Victor Behrens; the speaker of
the day Judge C. M. Caldwell;
Chairman of the Board of Trus-
tees W. P. Wright; and Dr. Mil-
lard Jenkens Pastor Emeritus
First Baptist Church.
Featherston Is Sweetheart
In the chapel service Miss
Reiff presented the Bronco
Sweetheart Gayle Featherston
and gave personalized yearbooks
to each of the forty staff mem-
bers. She announced that 1000
yearbooks were ready for distri-
bution to students who had at-
tended Hardin-Simmons for both

who associates with the "floozies";

Rodeo Party Highlight
Western Celebration
FRACAS WEEK annual frontier celebration and rodeo
begins Tuesday April 24. Highlights of the week will include
such activities as a tobacco spitting contest beard growing con-
test four rodeo performances at Carl Myers Arena a parade
and an all-school party where' the Rodeo Sweetheart will be
crowned.

Nominees for Rodeo Sweet-
heart were selected in club meet-
ings Monday after chapel.

Betty Osborne Pampa Texas
will represent Rodeo Club. Betty
is a freshman living in South
Hall. She is a White Horse Rider
a member of Rodeo Club and is
the only girl participant on the
H-SU Rodeo Team.
Bepky Jo Smith Jal New Mex-
ico is to represent the New Mex-
ico Club. Becky Jo is Rodeo Club
secretary P. E. Club secretary
is a member of Aphi Chi Who's
Who and was NIRA Ail-Around
Cowgirl last year. She is a junior
residing in Behrens Hall.
Marjie Darden Young is repre-
senting Alpha Psi Omega. She is a
Sophomore from Lovington New
Mexico and she is a member
of Cowgirls Alpna Psi Player's
Club and Speech Club.
The Cowgirl nominee isl Bev-
erly Meador a sophomore from
Coahoma Texas who is a white
horse rider and member of the
A Cappella Choir Beta Mu
Kappa and Cqwgirls.
The Colt club nominee is Betsy
Polk a freshman from Abilene
Texas. Betsy is member of the
BSU Greater Council-Secretary
Bronco Staff and reporter for
the Colt Club.
Pattsie Andrews" senior from
Albany vrtll represent the Play-
ers Club. Pattsie is a member of
Cowgirls FTA Players Club and
the Hunter Hall Council.
Beta Mu Kappa selected Martha
Ligon Abilene senior as their
nominee. She is a member of
Cowgirls A Cappella Choir
YWA and Beta Mu Kappa.
Petree to Head LSB
For Fall Semester
Begining the term of office next
fall will be the new set of offi-
cers elected last Tuesday night
at Life Service Band.
Serving the band as President
will be Gerald Petree a junior
student from View Texas. Ger-
ald was recently elected Senior
Representative for the Student
Council of 1956 and has also
served as Extension Vice Presi-
dent of L S B.
Cartpr Tucker a freshman
ministerial student from here in
Abilene will head the extension
program of the organization as
Extension Vice President. Tucker
is a veteran student and has
served recently as social chair-
man for the Ministerial Council.
Keeping records and perform-
ing other secretarial duties will
be Veta Elliott a junior student
from Graham Texas.
Missions
In charge of fhe missions pro-
grams next year will be Brad
Hayride
The "kick off" to FRACAS
WEEK will be staged Tuesday
evening when Circle K sponsors
an all-school hayride at 6 p. m.
The hayride which is under the
direction of Jimmy Stephen
Circle" K secretary-treasurer pre-
cedes the Student Council all-
school party in Rose. Field House
at 7:30. Admission to the party
will be granted only if persons
are attired in Western wear.
Upon entering the party stu-
dents will cast their vote for
Rodeo Sweetheart. Nominees
were selected by the club Monday
at regular club meetings and the
one chosen as Sweetheart will
lead the parade Thursday and the
grand entry of the rodeos. The
votes will be tallied during the
program in order to anounce the
results at the party.
Good Ole Slim
Slim Willet's Band will be on
hand to offer an hour stage show
filled with typical Western music.
During the intermission David
McPherson master of ceremon-
ies for the evening will install
the Sheriff Ray Carson and his
deputies: John Henry Lyle Eu-
gene Brooks David Nelson Jamie
Tidenberg Hal Haralson Pete
Murray Dayton King Charles
Canfield Pete Hart Connie

Buddy Cockrell. Also at- this time
the Rodeo Sweetheart will be
crowned.
Something new this year is the
selection of Honorary Sheriff
from the faculty or staff of the
University. Recommendat ions
were made to the Student Coun-
cil Tuesday night and a selection
was voted upon. His identity will
remain secret until Tuesday night
at the party.
"Most Typical" Coniefst
A "Most Typical Cowgirl" and
"Most Typical Cowboy" will be
selected to reign during the week.
The judges wil be Mrs. Truett
Walton Leon Marsh Mr. and
Mrs. George Hines Sam Baugh
and Wayne Milner.
