Coach Glen Whitis and his
Cowboy basketball team will hit
the road or rather the air Wed-
nesday for their first trip of the
season.
They'll play the Idaho State
University Bengals Thursday
night at Pocatello then go to
Bozeman Mont. for a Saturday
night game with the Montana
State University Bobcats.
Both opponents are members
of the Big Sky Conference a
major NCAA league and both
teams hope to challenge for the
conference championship this
year.
The games will be broadcast
over KRBC Radio.
Neither opponent is new to
Hardin-Simmons. Montana State
came to Abilene last year and
lost to the Cowboys 85-76 in
Taylor County Coliseum. Idaho
State visited Rose Field House
for two games in 1966 losing
both as the Cowboys set new
team scoring records of 124-88
and 122-88 against the Bengals.

The Cowboys were behind on-

as the game-experienced Indians
fought hard all the way. The

the second half.
But after Whitis regrouped
his crew there was never any
doubt in the closing minutes as
Harris and Williams combined
for seven straight points to make
the victory decisive. Every man
oh the Cowboy bench saw at
least several minutes of action
in the opener.
Saturday night the Razor-
backs had to strain for a come-
back effort in the second half
to keep the Cowboys from beat-
ing them even worse.
The Pokes had pulled away to
60-48 halftime lead after a brief
see-saw battle during the open-
ing minutes. But the Hogs who
had lost earlier to Missouri in
overtime started hitting from
outside and pulled to within a
point of the Cowboys twice.
The last time the margin was
dangerously thin was with 6:27
left when a lay-up by Aimer
Lee Sophomore of the Year in
the Southwest Conference last
season made the score 89-91.
But after that Harris Loos
Martin Williams and DeHoff put
together a scoring spree which
left the crowd of some 3000
breathless.
Earlier DeHoff the 6-10 sen-
ior from Tongonoxie Kans. had
come off the bench and literally
pulled the game out of the fire
with his best scoring effort ever
in a Cowboy uniform. DeHoff hit
10 of 14 field goals for the night
and had a 21-point total.
"Dave really made the differ-
ence in the second half" Whitis
said. He had replaced Jahns
