Spring Break WhHaaawhoooo!
Folks this mornin' been goin' to class with books in one hand and a suitcase in
the other. Abilene sure'U be lookin' fine in that rearview mirror baby.
I'm takin' my break a day early. Ashby David Kahle Sarge the Fish and I
are hittin' the road this afternoon for Austin to watch the Cowboys and Longhorns
play a little baseball. The Cowboys probably'Il sweep the 'Horns with McLeod and
Richard hurlin.' Is HSU tough? Ask them that plays baseball in Aggieland? Any-
ways we'll have things covered from the stands.
Of course spring break for many us means taking the books along. Whatever
happened to havin all your tests before the break and gettin' them out of the
way? I've got a book review and tests in all my classes the week we get back.
Nice planning. I guess I still haven't learned that spring break is for the profs
and not for students. Maybe I'll buy 'em all Pink Floyd's single 'Another Brick in
the Wall.' "We don't need no education...."
Looking at the spring semester from the senior side of things it's tough trying
to finish up. Somewhere since the chicks started wearing those nice shorts and
the end of basketball season I've well I I mean you know can't seem to uh
keep on the books you know. Let's see. Let me phrase that a little better. I have
become somewhat disinterested in pursuing the high educational goals which I
have established in order that I may increase my knowledge and attain.. ..forget
it man.
Tell me now. How can you sit in the library and do a research paper or a re-
port when the nights are warm and it seems like everybody else is up and about
having a good time. Spring was made for trips to the Bell or Bueno night tennis
Softball and late-night strolls.
I mean spring fever is even getting to Disco Styles. The other night the King
of Boogie himself was seen at the Honors Concert in Woodward-Dellis. You could
see it in his eyes... a disco beat accompanying Chris Reidlinger's violin perform-
ance. Roll over Beethoven.
How in the world are we supposed to study in April with baseball games frater-
nity and sorority weekends the Ronnie Milsap concert the swimming pool open-
ing up and graduation almost here? No way. Time to set things on cruise control
and glide into Hay.
As you might be able to tell I've caught a classic case of senioritis. But hey I
deserve it. After four years of books and term papers and projects and book re-
views and labs and cafeteria food and arguing about my bill and cold showers
and everything else CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE!
I feel better just getting that off my chest.
Time to get out the ole flip-flops and tank-tops roll down the windows of the
car take in a midnight movie or two play a little tennis. What the heck! After
all when else in life can we really afford to have a little fun. Maybe when we re-
tire from our jobs but then the boogie is gone from our bodies: Time for that
champagne music.
I have to admit this spring stuff has even made its way into my column. Oh
well why wear a stuffed shirt when it's warm enough to wear a T-shirt? Give me
another one Sarge...Cowboy-style!

Senior Officers Gather
Graduation Information

The senior class officers headed by
president Dirk Stricklin have been gath-
ering information to aid Hardin-Simmons
University seniors prepare for gradu-
ation and after.
For those seniors graduating in May
today is the last day to order diplomas.
Dr. Ross Johnson dean of students re-
minds seniors also to order caps and
gowns from the bookstore. Students
should pay their graduation fee and con-
tact the Alumni Office concerning in-
vitations to the graduation dinner.
A photography company representa-
tive from Austin will take graduation
pictures. Proofs are sent to parents and
there is no purchase obligation. A card
will be distributed to seniors for this in-
formation sometime this month or in
April. Along these same lines Tid McA-
den Dean of Women suggests graduates
wear to dark shoes and the men wear
dark-colored pants.
Looking to life after college Carolyn
Bray from the HSU Placement Office
suggests seniors take a few minutes to
view video cassettes on interviews at the
Richardson Library Media Center. A
sampling of the cassettes are "Pre-
partation for the Interview" "The Inter-
view" and "Interview Follow-Up." She
would like seniors to work on their
placement files and in later years up-
date the files.
For a $5 fee the Office will send a job
vacany bulletin concerning educational
or business position availability. A stu-
dent may request hisher file three
times before a S2 fee is charged for a
request.
The Placement Office also has cata-
logs from companies across the nation
describing the jobs and addresses of the
companies.
Hardin-Simmons is also interested in
keeping up with alumni. John Womble
director of alumni relations hopes
alumni will become involved In the ac-
tivities of the Alumni Association. Active
chapters for the 20000 HSU alumni are
being formed across the United States.
The Range Rider keeps alumni in-
formed on each other as well as the uni-
versity. This quarterly publications
keeps alumni up-to-date on events at the
university including Homecoming ath-
letic events concerts the All-School Sing
and many other annual events.
Those students interested in graduate
school should be aware of the factors in-
volved in attaining admission. In addi-
tion to the formal application and
transcript requirements the quality of
undergraduate work and admission test
score are important factors. References
personal interviews and career goals are
included in the admission process.
Depending on the institution financial
aid programs graduate assistantships
scholarships grants and loans are avail-
able. These aids are based on need or on
scholarship.
Graduate school is of course a valu-
able commodity for the student. Depend-
ing on the supply and demand factor of
the job market graduate school usually
leads to an increase in salary.
