FRUITVALE • The
Fruitvale school trustees
voted to renew Superin
tendent Don Travis' con-
tract for the 1984-'85
school year and approved
the purchase of track
equipment in a routine
session Tuesday night.
The decision to rehire
Travis came after an hour-
long closed session and
some discussion in open
session about delaying the
decision until the February
meeting. Travis told the
trustees that he would
prefer that they make a
decision that night, and
with bar standards for use
in boys and girls track.
Travis pointed out that the
items were included in the
budget, and the trustees
agreed to purchase the

Hilliard noted that the
law covering grievance
committee findings re-
quired officials disagreeing
January, 1983, concerning
a request from Sheriff
Travis Shafer for the pay-
ment of a milage allowance
for the use of his personal
vehicle.
The commissioners and
Shafer eventually reached
a compromise: Shafer
received a milage
allowance for less than two
months, and the commis-
sioners approved the pur-
chase of a county vehicle
for his use.
The new law will not
allow salary disputes or
department funding
disputes to come up in the
middle of the fiscal year,
Hilliard noted.
